Spent a couple days with the gf living out of our hammocks.. Jumping around to a couple different campsites throughout our trip.. Was quite the blast and a very beautiful area to visit..
Thats some true camping right there haha. Whenever my family went camping we were around a campfire with gameboys in hand.
I live roughly 25-30 minutes from where part of the forest starts. Glad you had fun in my proverbial backyard. =D Seriously though, it's a beautiful forest that I've unfortunately explored very little of.
you should explore it more... we took in as much as possible in the 3 days we stayed there.. Twin Lake was bad ass.. that's where the dock picture was taken.. Best campsites we came across out of the places we stayed or checked out.. We also stayed at Moose Lake which was a nice spot also.. Day Lake was nice too Oh yeah.. and then also checked out Hayward a lil bit... I was gonna blaze in it's mouth then a bunch of people showed up
Haha. The big Muskie. I go to Hayward a lot. They've got a cool little winery downtown along with the a brewery (Angry Minnow) that I like to visit a lot. Nothing like cheese curds and local beer on a nice day. Yeah. I really do have to explore more often. I tend to forget I have such amazing features right next to me when planning trips. I tend to go up to Duluth/Two Harbors area a lot more often than towards the forest.
You ever make it down to the Viroqua area? It's beautiful down there.. Looks exactly like the foothills of the Appalachians or Smokies.. Absolutely stunning.. And is also known as Organic Valley area as Organic Valley is in a nearby town.. A lot of the area farms therefor are Organic Valley family farms.. Very "granola" area of Wisconsin
I've only been down that way once or twice. I don't go near Lacrosse very often. The furthest I go south on a semi-regular basis is Eau Claire or towards Lake Pepin/Lake City on the border of WI and MN. I'm hoping to get down to Lacrosse area next month for Octoberfest, but I don't know if I'll have the weekend off.
I'm about 3 hours away from Lacrosse. I'm moving tomorrow so I'll be about 25-30 minutes closer, but it takes just about the same time to go to Minneapolis so I generally end up there.
Nice pics Hotdish, looks like a good ole time. When I was in the porcupine mountains last spring I ran into this wild ass motherfucker from chicago, we burned, swapped stories, and shared a little wisdom. He told me the best backcountry campsite he had ever been to was in this forest. He told me rembember two things "hidden lakes and three johns lake, you gotta go there bro". Do you know of this site? Are you far from the area?
I have found the trail map and the general location of the site, I talked to a guy on the backpacker mag forums that just got back from there and is diggin up some photos, just lookin for others insight.
I stayed in the Clam Lake area.. Twin Lake, Day Lake, and Moose Lake.. I am lucky to say that my gf ended up liking camping in a hammock to begin with... See can be a pita at time when it comes to bugs ... So backcountry camping wasn't even a thought haha.. But I broke her in a lil bit with this trip.. We did a lot of things that made her just have to deal or gtfo.. Hopefully next summer we do some backcountry camping
