Chemistry Degree Advice

  1. So blades im about to start a chemistry course at university and was wondering if anyone here is doing one/has done one and has any advice to give me...safe:smoke:

  2. The best advice I can give you is that learning chemistry is an active learning process. You will not learn it simply by going to lecture and taking some notes. You need to do it first hand yourself. Do the problem sets, do the recommended problems from the book, etc. Figure out how to solve them on your own. When you've exhausted your options and still can't find the answer, seek help. No respectable chem prof will ever turn down a student who comes to them with specific problems that they have already tried but cannot sort through on their own. On the other hand, every respectable chem prof will chew a student out if the student comes to them and says, "I don't get this whole chapter or entire concept, can you re-explain everything to me?"

  3. I agree with chiefton, i think algebra is super important and making sure you understand one concept before you tackle the next or youll end up clueless in the end

  4. So much of this.

I'm currently majoring in Chemistry and have my own study strategy. I attend every lecture and take my notes. I do all of the problem sets. Then, a week before an exam, I go into the book and do all of the suggested problems, redo all of the problem sets, and take the practice tests. It works exceptionally well for me.

I do forget things (like everybody else), but it only takes a quick glance at my notes to recall everything.

Depending on where you study, chem classes can be among the most difficult. Just study a lot and don't miss lectures
Practice doing the problems in the book over and over until you get it down. Chem is one of the only things that actually required me to study..had to pull a few all-nighters

It really seems that there isn't enough time in the day to learn all ther is in chemistry. Its interesting as hell tho

  6. thanks guys im looking forward to it. should be a lot of work though....better than being bored/drunk/stoned 100% of the time

  7. OP - I want a degree in some field of Science. I may choose Geology or Chemistry - depending on if I can handle it.

But that's not the point of this post. I have MANY legit E-book (.PDF) textbooks regarding Chemistry, Biology - you name it, I got it. Let me know if you want some of them.

  8. thanks for the offer man but i dont have a kindle and i get my textbooks free anyway...thanks again though

  9. You got it, man. Good luck.

  10. someones been watching breaking bad ay?

just kidding, good luck with it, ive always thought people who could create ''things'' from chemicals were so lucky, doesnt even have to be drugs, if you know what you are doing you can turn table sugar into c-vitamin powder, which would cost alot more to buy :)

  11. Write/draw when you study chemistry.

  12. Shampoo industry is lucrative.

  13. And fish is supposed to be great for the memory.
