I know there are plenty of chill folk in Asheville who use this site so I'll throw this out there I just got accepted to UNC Asheville and I'm really lookin to visit this weekend. I've built up Asheville to be amazing in my head from the incredible shit I've heard, and I'm hoping the dream will materialize, but I want to prepare the weekend so it'll meet it's POTential. That said, what's up from Pittsburgh, if you're a student at UNC hit me up, I'm trying to stay in a dorm this weekend and I'd be much more content with an arrangement via grasscity than admissions
I know kids who go to UNCA and other friends who also live in Asheville and I used to visit all the time when I went to school close to there but in all honesty, I don't think this is the safest or best way to approach finding a place to stay while in town.
I am an Ashevillan myself haha. I love it here, I would be able to help you get situated in the city more but I am a full time student over at ABTech (Asheville-Buncombe Technical school) so I have no free time these days. But yeah there is a really unique vibe to Asheville but keep in mind that some if it is just hype, and for every chill person there is a crazy person running around lol. Keep in mind that Asheville is surrounded by the bible belt on all sides and bible bashers and rednecks come to town to fuck with people all the time. And there is a lot of low income life going on in West Asheville in certain area's so be careful not to go to places where you will get robbed like Pisgah View Apartments or Hillcrest lol. Don't be quick to assume everybody that seems chill is chill, that is the moral of that story lol. But don't be discouraged either, compared to everywhere else in this shit hole called Western North Carolina, Asheville is an amazing place. And I hope you like craft beer because it is fucking everywhere!!! Your best bets as a new person here are to hang out around downtown and Haywood road, exploring other area's too soon could lead to extreme confusion and your best bet is to meet some people who can show you around. The roads here are confusing and you don't wanna go wandering into the wrong parts of town by yourself until you know what is what lol.
