So i didn't drive my car for a month, came back and the next day my check engine light came on. I took it for an oil change and the guys there told me it was a p2000 code. I said what the hell is that? He said it's a dealer only code. So fucking awesome. I'm dreading taking it to the dealer cause i'm sure it'll be some stupid shit that'll run me $500. Anyone familiar with this p2000 code or have any ideas as to what it could be? Car's running fine, i don't see or hear anything. My first thought was oxygen sensors...but that's all it is is a guess. I'm terrible with cars as it is, so i wanna take it in but i don't exactly have $400-$500 bucks to drop on whatever it is. Chances are, it's not some small simple solution. It never is .
2 options: Go to autozone/pepboys/equivalent part store and have them read the code Go to the dealer and just ask them to read you the code, don't diagnose it Either option will give you a different code. P2000 is just a generic code, so no info there. Theres literally a shit load of codes, could mean anything from an oxygen sensor to a loose gas cap, and so on. Get the code, post it up, see what happens. P2000 is basically a generic "powertrain" code, which could mean anything.
Hmm thats odd. You should be able to get all trouble codes with a obd2 coumputer. I would take it tl the dealer ship. Is it still under warranty?
i got the preowned certified warranty so i have the big parts covered. i'll hit up an autozone, i wonder why midas weren't able to tell me what it was. I didn't get the diagnostics run there, they just did it while they did my oil change. IF autozone can't tell me, i'll take to the dealer.
Just get the code and post it up, atleast someone might be able to give you an idea of the cost. If you have the certified warranty it MIGHT be covered, but chances are they'll charge you 1 hour diagnosis ($100) before telling you if its covered.
