Cheap ph meter?

Discussion in 'First Time Marijuana Growers' started by Classy, Sep 20, 2011.

  1. Hello everyone.

Where is the cheapest place ONLINE to but a ph meter?

I also need Mylar, where is the cheapest place to buy it?

  2. I bought the HI 99104 from ebay for like $30, it worked perfectly. I switched to a hanna continuous monitor for pH/EC.

Make sure to buy some 4.01ph/7.01 testing solutions (you can use the 4.01 for the probe storage solution)

Mylar on ebay as well, or local hydro stores. It's also found in emergency blankets at walmart etc, it's thin and has a bunch of creases everywhere.

  3. Cheapest isn't cheap when you end up needing to buy a middle of the road one too because the chapest one was shit. I think you mean "best value" I bought a cheap PH pen and end up using my litmus paper as much because the bateries are always dead or somthing the pen was $75 the paper was $10 might save you a few bucks and work better.

  4. i got my ph kit from a pet store. 4 dollars. test tube with a sample of the water and three drops of this stuff. match the color to ph... it was to the nearest .1... i tested so much and it always need a consistent 12 drops of down to get it to 6.2 that i haven't tested it in a very long time..... speaking of which... i think i should test it soon... make sure its the same. anyway.. most will tell you to go digital which i always recommend, but i started on a budget and after the light there wasn't much i could do... almost 4 years later, still using 12 drops. have had to buy quite a few ph down refills though.

oh... don't know about the mylar. i painted the closet semi gloss white....

  5. Thank you, can you post a link of the meter you got off ebay?

i'm not sure what mylar to get off ebay either...

  6. amazon.com lots of well priced ph meters no tax and free shipping if your a amazon prime member..all equals win

  7. There are so many, though.

Can you link me to a good yet efficient one?

Hanna Combo Waterproof pH/EC/TDS/Temp HI-98129 Hanna Combo Waterproof pH/EC/TDS/Temp HI-98129

i have about six meters or so, this is my fav.... 144 dollars... waterproof, temp compensation,PH,PPM,EC.... auto calibration... love this

but if your looking for cheaper....

PH-035 Waterproof Pen-type pH Meter with Temperature Display PH-035 Waterproof Pen-type pH Meter with Temperature Display

this one is 25 dollars.... its still water proof, PH,PPM,EC... no self calibration and the wording is confusing, but another user said no temp compensation... but once again, i don't actually own one of these so ill take that users word on that....

    either way don't forget:
    7.0
4.0 if your meter calls for dual calibration
    storage solution
PPM/EC solutions if your meter calls for them

    good luck

  9. HI 99104 Hanna Digital pH Meter/Tester/Checker HI99104 | eBay

The 25 dollar one Tihspeed linked seems like it's too cheap to be quality, but I haven't looked into the brand. If it has solid reviews that's an awesome deal for a pH + EC

Honestly they work perfectly fine, the only disadvantage of cheaper ones is the calibration, for that meter I would calibrate every week because it would stray ~.1 or so, and it takes <5 seconds to get a steady reading.

  10. i know someone who has one... they said it worked pretty good.... but the temp compensation thing was from another person.... but its 25 bucks... and waterproof.... cant really go wrong... good as a backup to say the least

  11. Hannah makes inexpensive ph meters and so does HM Digital.

I got my Hannah ph and TDS off eBay and bought the buffer solutions locally.

Buy the ph 7.01 and ph 4.01 buffer solutions and make sure the meter you buy is calibrated.

The Hannah I bought new was .2 off the high and .1 off the low and needed a minor adjustment

    :smoke: :smoke: :smoke: :smoke: :smoke:

  12. Alright, I will be buying this tonight! :smoke:

if i had more money i would have probably bought a dearer branded one to start with but is there realy any need when one of these cheapo ones is giving spot on readings :confused_2:

i definatly wouldnt recomend one of these

  14. I wouldn't buy one without "auto power off" again, I've had mine 3 months and I need new bateries again. Mine wasn't exactly cheap it looks and feels cheap but it was $75.

  15. I hate that feature, but I know why its there
