  1. I just wanted to share:
I have always ahd a problem with stress.. LOTS of it.. I've never beena ble to find anything that helps me get rid of it.. I've tried everything I could find and think of, from excersising, to hot bubble baths, to aroma therapy etc.etc. I can't afford to get a massage every couple of days, so i ahve really been feeling hopeless when it comes to that. Last night I was watching a show on T.V. and they said something about chanting and how it can help relieve stress, and unite your mind, body and spirit, and other things, but I wont get into the details. Anyways, So I did a google search on it, and found this site.

So I listened to the samples... I really enjoyed Gate_Gate so I put it on repeat with Windows media player and I just sat there last night for almost an hour and a half just listening to it. When I went to bed I felt so refreshed and alive, I was genuinely happy. I felt light and more relaxed than I can ever remember feeling. I slept better, I woke up happy, and even the normal stresses of the day have not gotten to me the way they used to. I think I may have really found something.. anyways, my reason behind this post is to ask if there is anyone else who does/listens to chanting, and if so are there any chants or CD's you recommend? I'm going to start looking to see if I can find a chanting class in my area also.. Thanks for any help that can be given.

  2. when i think of chanting... angry riot chants come to mind, hah..

i could understand how listening to music can make you feel refreshed, but you have to be stoned. Just get as baked as possible, turn on some speakers with some relaxing rhythm... i've done this for the past week with pink floyd mix tapes. its awesome, you just get the best nights sleep ever...

  3. i try to meditate whenever i have extreme emotions so i can center myself, tho im not very good at it. always seem to get a song stuck in my head right when im about to try it....like clockwork lol. never tried chanting but its seems like it would be effective

  4. Check out www.erowid.org. We all know its the source for drugs, but it also has tons of information on other interesting activities. Check out the "Mind and Spirit" section (http://www.erowid.org/spirit/spirit.shtml).
Tons of information about dancing, fasting, praying, meditating, dreaming, all that stuff, to help benefit you spiritually. Some real interesting reads.

Glad to see your getting some of the stress out of your life. God knows it wouldn't hurt if I did the same. :D

  5. Erowid is actually the reason I decided to learn meditation, it has a lot of helpful links. I suppose I'll try chanting a few times to see if it's effective for me, I actually hadn't heard before of the positive effects of chanting, thanks.

  6. I saw this guy on tv doing a chanting session of some sort with his wife...
Not only did it sound really cool, but kinda made you understand how something like that would be highly relaxing...

    Found some soundfiles here:

  7. N*P* Cornflake.. I have never found anything in my life that I was sold on in one sitting... All day today when I felt myself getting too stressed out, I would stop for a moment and close my eyes and quitely repeat the chant a couple times, and I swear I could feel my stress just leave my body... I've read that it can get really intense in classes, and so far I haven't been able to find any around here, but I'm going to keep trying.. I highly reccomend it to anyone who may be even the slightest bit interested... Just give it a try... You just might be surprised.. I was!! This weekend, I'm going to sit down at night and light a few candles and put Gate_Gate on again, and just sit there in the candle light and chant... I might even do it tonight!! I'm so impressed with it.. :D
    :hello:

    Thanks for the link E!!

  8. Glad it's working out for you...
    :)

  9. :D There's some really great stuff there!!! I'm enjoying it alot!!!

  10. Gregorian chants can be quite rythmic if you prefer latin catholicism. Enya's Tempus Vernum, I find quite easy to space out to as well as Deora ar mo chroi. In fact her whole cd -A Day Without Rain- is fairly easy to relax to. The proper ambiance also helps; maybe a nice blue or subdued background light, some incense burning, maybe even a lava lamp to stare at and NO outside distractions, especially the telephone (there's nothing worse than a telephone ring to break a trance). Hope I could help, may you find inner peace.

  11. chug!! chug!! chug!! chug!! chug!!!!

thats as far as my experience goes anyways... sounds interesting tho. im gonna check out some of these links and see what i can find.

    thanks for the tip ;)
