Chances of light burning home down?

Discussion in 'Growing Marijuana Indoors' started by moabfighter, Aug 3, 2018.

  1. I wake up often worried my lights are going to catch my house on fire. Don't know why. The idea that I've ran a very hot light for a solid 20 days straight 24/7 just makes me worry. I know that's what they're made for but still.

    Little reassurance guys?

  2. Why is light runnin 24 7?? 18 hours light is plenty for veg

  3. I don't know. Guess I thought 24/0 was the standard for veg. It'd be awesome to get 6 hours no light if it won't hurt growth.

  4. 18/6 is perfect bro, Ive always used it for veg and never had any issues. Focus more on the environment (Humidty/Temp), ph, ec and water temp for optimised growth. 6 hours sleep is fine for your ladies

  5. Most plant growth takes place in the dark period.
Not saying it doesn't grow at all, but I've always
run 18/6 during veg for this reason.

Just what I've read on the web. If there are
any experts who can verify or refute this
    I'd be much obliged.

  6. Appreciate the insight everyone.

But the question remains, ever seen a grow light burst into flames? I assume the bulb would simply blow under too much stress/electricity whatever. But I don't know. Just worries me.

  7. Right on the money I do the same 18/6 they need sleep just like us and best growth is when lights are out . So tern the timer down dude and have a peaceful sleep haha

  8. if it helps there may be 60k watts burning around here. some of them 24 hours. what light are you burning ?

  9. Roots grow better in the dark but photosynthesis only occurs in the light. I used to think vegging 18/6 was best. I was wrong. 24/0 is much faster growth. Try it sometime.

  10. 24/0 all the way, google c3, breaker will pop before house burns down. If you plug in an extra toaster and it blows you know you are close. Kill-o-watt if you are worried. How many watts are you running? 18/6 will not be any safer. 24/0 is best for pot. Lights last longer on 18/6 and pot takes longer on 18/6 and you can make shoes last twice as long if you wear a different pair every other day.

  11. Cannabis is not a plant that requires a "dark period" to grow properly. The only real advantage to 18/6 over 24/0 is to save on energy costs.
There are several articles that state that it's faster to veg plants under 24/0. Cannabis does not infact need to sleep at all.
If you are growing autoflowers, it's most ideal to grow under a 24/0 period, as they have a set schedule to when they will flower from the moment of germination, regardless of your, or mother nature's light schedules. They will flower under 24/0, or they will flower under 18/6.
24/0 on photo plants just allows for faster veg, if you can afford the power, I would run 24/0. If you have any interest in saving on energy costs, run 18/6.
The only time your light schedule really truly matters to your plant is when you are inducing the flower stage, as it needs long period of uninterrupted darkness.
I run 18/6 during veg (and even on my autoflowers during their whole light cycle for several reasons, first and foremost being energy costs. Second would be that during the hot hours of the day in Florida, I don't need to add unnecessary heat. For that reason, my lights are off from 11AM until 5PM. The rest of the night/day is lights on time. This helps me save 6 hours worth of power during the dark period, and allows me to manage the heat in my grow room more easily.

TL;DR - For vegging as fast as possible, with no cares towards energy consumption or heat, run 24/0
For vegging while keeping energy costs and heat into account, run 18/6.
During flower on photo plants, 12/12.

Also, to answer the real question, your breakers will trip long before a fire is started. That's why they are there.

  12. I run seedlings 24/7 for 14 days then switch to 18/6 till flowering stage, 12/12 till harvest after that.

  13. If you want to be extra safe they make power strips & extension cords with built in circuit breakers.

  14. I don't understand electricity very well I was just thinking the metal fixture gets too hot somehow and somehow burns the insides of the chords of the light etc and somehow catches flame.

Kind of sounds irrational now that I write it out.

  15. If ever woried about fire. Have jugs of water in plastic in each cotner. So if flames errupt and hit those jugs the damage will be reduced
