Cfl's estimated tempature

  1. Was up blades just started my grow and popped in two 85 watt floro's thats cool but the heat is very high in my cab I installed my 6 in' basic exhuast fan it only bought it to 99 deg. so here is where I need the estimate at put your caps for this one I plan on putting 1 more 85 and two 105's a combined wattage up 460 watts, you guys think one more 6 in' inlne fan but intake this time will reduce the temp's to around 80-89 degree's or not thx for your input:D

  2. I would say that you will definately want a fan in there, and most of the heat is probably from the light fixture and not the light itself.

  3. Hiya two,

If your cab is small enough to get too hot with just a bunch of flouros, then one 6" inline fan should be more than enough to cool it.

Do you have plenty of passive intakes?
What sort of temps does your intake air average?

I run 600w of flouros in a 1200 x 600 x 2400mm cab, and usually only require minimal ventilation (like 1 pc case fan) to keep it in a decent temp range, drawing air at roughly 20 deg C from the same room.

Got a link to your setup, or any more info?

  4. do u have the exhaust fan at the top? (hot air rises)... also u can put some holes to draw in air, as a passive intake, if u had to u could use 2 exhaust fans with passive intake

  5. yeah I got the classic exhaust at the Top and intake at the bottom due to my prior HPS which I lost the ballast too (long story) but I checked on it now and its 94 degrees in there adding the three more bulbs I know for sure I will be needing the extra intake. FYI I dont mess with the passive intake holes heard that doesnt get along with odor controling teqhniques.

  6. Eh? What do you mean about not messing with intake holes?

As long as the exhaust and intakes are roughly balanced, then air will be drawn in through the intakes, thereby not allowing any odour to escape through them.

I'm still struggling to see how a 6" fan can't cope with 480w of flouro.

What's the full spec of the cab? Give us the rundown two.

  7. my specs are 1'1ft deep, 2'4ft wide and 5ft high pretty nice cab I can fit 3 3 gallon growbags in there, you think I can go for 3 5 gallons:confused: who knows. Oh and Rabiez I heard bad things about intake holes I only mess with Passive intake where a fan is actually moving air inside creating negative pressure inside the cab:D

  8. I'm still not sure what you mean by 'mess with' passive intakes.

If your intakes are inadequate (or non-existent), your exhaust fan will have to work harder, making more noise (thinks...ah, the foam thread), and not shifting the volume of air that it should.

My 6" fans are rated at up to 550 m/hour, or 152.8 litres/second.

To keep the fan working quietly & efficiently, the cab needs to take in the same amount of air, without the negative pressure you speak of.

For perspective, let's imagine our intake air is contained in 2 litre pop(soda) bottles.

Every second, I would need to shove 76 pop bottles full of air into the cab. That's a lot of bottles baby; 4560 bottles every minute.

If my intake hole is the same diameter as the bottles, the fan will have to work very hard to create the pressure required to suck in 76 bottles every second.

Double the size of the intake, and the fan only has to work half as hard to suck in the same amount of air.

Take away ALL the intakes, and the fan sits there trying to create a vacuum (which it's not capable of), and making loads of noise as the blades chop through the slow moving air.

Passive intakes don't create any odour problems IME, as long as they're vaguely balanced with the exhaust.

  9. I think I got my terms mixed up cause I plan on using the same exact fan as the exhuast im just not down with the drill three holes and put piping as the intake thats what im trying to explain. I already drilled the whole and everything since I was gonna place the same exact fan where the new fan is going but the vortex is too loud thus eliminating the use of my HPS.

  10. Er, if you're 'not down' with cutting passive intakes, and you can't use an active intake cos it's too loud, I can't help.

Except maybe to suggest you get a gert big CO tank, but I have limited xp with CO so I'll leave that for others to suggest.

I see only 1 answer, and that's to cut some passive intakes, and light trap them. Watch those temps plummet. In fact, if you get the intakes right, I'd be willing to bet you'll find that one 6" exhaust fan will need a speed controller to stop the box from getting too cold.

    Gluck.

  11. allright your still not getting me Rabiez Allright heres my cab on the upper right side there is a 6' in hole with a inlline fan attached and on the bottom left there is a 6 in' hole on the bottom left so my holes are already cut. Im just stating earlier that Im againts intake that is not powered by a fan pushing air in. FYI my temps were crazy when I woke up I left the cab open and everthing and my temps were 99 Im thinkin about pulling my plannts or getting a 6' fan ASAP.
