Howdy all! While I waiting for my seeds to come (Dr.Chronic w00t) I went out and started buying bits for my "garden" So after looking for a while I decided on two CFL's one was 25w and the other was 20w. The 25w one gives out 1300 lumens at 5700k and the 20w one gives out 1200 lumens at 2700k. While I could queeze another bulb in my chamber it wouldn't be too pleasent to redo everything, so do you guys think these two CFL's have enough light for about 3 two-three footish plants? I liked these bulbs because they put out so little heat for the light it's crazy.
You can also make cfl reflectors out of simple soda cans while you wait for your seeds. They should reflect at least 65% of the light down to your plant(s) instead of escaping to the ceiling. http://www.drugs-forum.com/growfaq/1477.htm Btw, what brand cfl's are these, and what color spectrum are they?
They're tucked away in my closet but the brand was N: (something) One was 2700k which is cool bluish. The other was 5700k which is a warmer red/pinkish. What I got going right now as a chamber is two garden pots stacked to make sort of an egg shape. You open it by lifting one pot off the other. I have both the cfl's coming down from the top of the pot and I lined the whole thing with the dull side of aluminum foil so it reflects most of it I think. Bright as hell to look at anyway. I can get pictures tomorrow if it would help.
I recently got the same brand home depot. I'm using 27 watt daylight n:visions. They come in the blue package, which is the ones you want for seedlings and veg as they keep plants short and bushy with their blue spectrum light output. Also, if you aren't happy with your current light setup, my light setup is very simple and easy to get going, I would highly recommend it, if your having problems and have extra closet space. All you need is: 1.tension rod(s), 2.lamp and bulbs 3.2in1 sockets(if you can get more bulbs) 4.Soda cans(for reflection) First, roll the socket cord around the tension rod so that your cord isn't everywhere. Then hang lamp(s) on the tension rod just like coats & hangers on a hanger rod. You can link twin y-sockets together to get four bulbs per lamp if you like. Add the can reflectors for increased reflectability. They fit perfectly for n:vision bulbs. Wallah, you have an adjustable lighting fixture. It's a great and intuitive way to adjust the lights as they get bigger without having to uncoil the neatly rolled lamp cord. You can use multiple tension rods if you want to make more use of the space and not have your lamps on only one rod I hope your current setup works for you, but if it doesn't this might help
^^ goddamnit thats a great idea!! i wish like hell that i'd thought of that when i had floros!! thumbs up for creativity.
You got that backwards, the higher the number the bluer the light. I grow with CFL's and can tell you, those two bulbs won't get you much off one plant, let alone 3. I'd either up the wattage (I've found 42w pretty easily), or get more bulbs. I have one plant, it grew to around 18" before harvest, and with 2x 42w 2700k bulbs and 1 30w 6500k, plus LED lights, I got a little over half an ounce dry. Just something to ponder.
Kamel, You have is backwards....2700K is cool(blue) spectrum and 6500K is warm(red) spectrum. v3, Using only the 2 25w and 20 watt bulbs just is not going to cut it. they would work while the plants are still very small sprouts but that would be it. Like Kamel said they would be barely enough for one plant let alone 3 of them. really when it comes down to spectrum though if you can only buy one type of light go with the 6500K bulbs they would be what you want for flowering and they will work just fine through thewhole grow. Your local Wal-Mart carries 42w 6500K bulbs that put out 2700 lumens each for about $9.00 per bulb. Depending on what you read one of these bulbs would barely be enough per plant. Though I don'y know what your grow box looks like I would thing it would still be very easy to add another socket to it. Also add the socket adaptors so you can use 2 bulbs in each socket and pickup 6 of the 42w bulbs and that would at least give you a good start. I currently have one plant under 3 42w and 2 24w bulbs and it is at week 6 of flowering and has several nice 6/7 inch long colas. the nice thing about CFL's is that you can drop the lights right down on top of the plants without fear of burning them like with HID lights
I sure am wrong!!! That is what I get for going to many things at once. Thanks for correcting me. Sorry for saying you were wrong Kamel.
You may want to check my first & second grow (still busy) for some more information, ideas and experience about fluro tubes and CFLs. Follow the link in my signature. 1st grow : 108W fluro tubes 2nd grow : 108W tubes + 108 CFL = 216W of fluro happiness.
Alrite, I think I solved my lighting problems I went out to walmart and picked up a pair of the biggest cfl's I could find here are the specs: Each one draws 42w and produces 2700lumens and are 6500k. So thats a total of 5400lumens as compared to my previous 2300 . Sound good?
That'll do nice for veg. Come flower though again you want 2700k, and more than 2, especially if you get all 3 chicas.
