CFL Proximity question...

  1. I know that the key to the effective use of CFLs is to use the right spectrum for vegging and flowering and keep the lights very close to the plant, however I have been having trouble keeping a balance between proximity and burn prevention. My question is this, how much damage is done to a plant overall if the leaf tips get burned every once in a while? Is any potential damage mitigated by the increased light it receives?

My current light fixtures are pretty cheapo and tend to slip down after I set them, should I make allowances for any possible slippage and raise them a little higher? I usually have them about 1 inch from the plant.....

    Thanks for any tips!

  2. hey there

am using cfl's for my grow too. I doubt the extra light from being close to the plant is a problem, the heat maybe and if it touches it WILL burn the leaves. I would make sure that it wont slide down and keep the light between 1-2 inches away from the plant
