CFL Placement Question

Discussion in 'Grow Room Design/Setup' started by Cyric99, Feb 9, 2009.

  1. Just curious... I am using a rubbermaid container to grow in. Would it be better to hang the CFLs vertically from the lid? Or have them horizontally through the sides of the container? Would both produce the same amount of light?

  2. the light bulbs themselves emit more light from the sides, not the end. but i would say hang them from the top, sideways. the flat side of the leaves will be pointed up, so they will get more light from the top. it wont hurt to have some lights on the side as the plant matures.

also make sure you line the inside of the container with mylar, or at least paint it white. good luck with the grow :smoking:

  3. I forgot to add that I will be doing a LST grow, if that changes the way the bulbs should be placed.

  4. With that size area, do them from above. I like to use Y connecters and put 2 bulbs per socket, then they will be diagonal. You can also make mini reflectors out of pop cans for each bulb.
