CFL Help

  1. Ok i am going to be growing one plant indoors and here is my setup-

    (2) Long flourescent tube lights in one of thoose black ballasts
    (1) 14=60 w CFL w/ 900 Lumen output (I have 3 more but i will put them on when the plant grows bigger.) The CFL is also in a reflector.

Do you think it will be good enough? IDK what specs the two long tubes have, but they are just the regular fat flourescent lights you see in buildings like school and such. The CFL is resting on a cardboard block and on the FL and points directly at the pot i will be using. The FL rests on two CBoard boxes and is right over the pot about 4-5 in away and the CFL seems to be a little over five. Its kinda hard to get the light close though because of the reflector. Pics soon hopefully. Oh yeah, i also have a heater on there, it will be set on the "fan" option.

  3. BUMP. Help please lol

  4. Your setup looks like a first grader put it together. My guess is you're not going to be successful. Read up on lights, once you've done your homework, you'll know.

  5. hater. I think it'll work just fine, putting the rest of those cfl's up right now would really help, don't plan on using this all through your grow.. you'll want hps for flowering.

  6. I think you have potential. But you need to throw those 14 watt Cfls away because they wont do you any good. Go to wal-mart and pick up the 45 watt cfls they have ther, better yet home depot has an 85 watt. Dont look at the incondesent numbers they mean nothing. I had a very similar setup, it worked just fine for me but I used 2 4ft 40 watt floro tubes, 4 45 watt cfls. Good luck man

  7. Thanks alot guys, are you sure thoose CFL's wont do anything cause i mean this is a weed were talking about ;). Im not going for like some super dank and im not trying be like a super high tech grower. I dont even care if i only get an eigth from the plant, but if it is an absolute must i will find some new lights, im sure we have some laying around. Thanks for the help guys! BTW the 4 ft.er's are 32 w.

  8. all the 42 watters at my local WM are 2700k. You want 6500k just use all of your CFL's and you should be ok for veg if you don't give a hoot about yield.

  9. These will due!

  10. EDIT IN SETUP! OK, i got one more 4 ft 30 w flouro tube, so thats three of them.
Also i have *about* a 100 watt CFL its REAL bright. Its three tubes and lights up an entire yard. (backyard front yard not measuring unit yard) So, in total it is 4 of thoose CFL lights that i already stated, 3 4ft flouro tubes, somewhere around if not brighter 100w CFL. How about now? Is it enough light? Also we may purchase a HPS for flowering. Ill try asnd find pics of the bright light we have.

  11. If you have any ideas as of how to get that reflector pointing towards the side of the pot, please share.......Also for this thread, not directed at capnkrnch i might be making a piece of wood with sockets all up it to put the CFL's in, that way ill just put it beside the pot it will look like this.... |O|

  12. New setup pics, the little white lamp thing i may incorperate somehow too, it just has a regular 100w bulb in it. The Pic with the CFL is the one i was talking about that was really bright, the pic with it turned on is when its about half way warmed up.

Hey, did you have the lights that far from the plant even when it was very small at the bottom of the unit? cause if so, then i will just rearange my setup and it will elimate the, "how am i going to suspend theese 3 4ft flouro tubes and keep the CFL's on the sides!!???" question. my setup is here, http://forum.grasscity.com/general-i...?highlight=CFL, and i hope you can see what i mean by how it could be easier. Get back at me ASAP. Thanks!

Nope, I had my youngn's raised up to the lights. Instead of raising lights, i lower plants.

    You could do the same

    Here's some diagrams

  17. New setup, will incorperate the brightest CFL i have sometime tomorow most likeley.
    What do you guys think now??Camera makes it look a lot less bright too so yeah. 3 30w Flourescent Tubes = 90 + 2 x 14w CFL's = 28 w = 108. The other bulb is ill just give it 80w so i have apprx. 188 w.

  18. The CFL setup on the hanging one is probably temporary, until i get something like what TheCloset has in his Grow. Im using his same technique basicaly.

  19. EDIT: Moved everything alot closer to the 4 footers, put half a beer can on the hanging CFL for reflection. Maybe Pics later EDIT: Looking at someone elses grow and lights i think they have the same CFL as me and theirs is 125 w so im almost positive i have a 125w :yay:
