So today, I read two things in the news about the current Israel-Lebanon massacre. The first being that Hezbollah claimed victory. I read that earlier this morning. The second being this: "WASHINGTON - President Bush said Monday that Israel defeated Hezbollah's guerrillas in the monthlong Mideast war and that the Islamic militants were to blame for the deaths of hundreds of Lebanese civilians" Many things upset me about this statement. How can you blame Hezbollah fo the deaths of the Lebanese, when it was US BOMBS being dropped on them? We should be blaming ourselves for expediating our bomb deliveries to Israel. The main thing that pisses me off is that, apprently unbeknownst to both sides, there was a CEASE FIRE. That means that no one won, no one lost. Israel could possibly claim victory because of their actual land invasion of Lebanon, but at the same time Hezbollah, a terrorist organization, managed to survive mulitple air strikes and ground offense. In the end, no one wins. This was a stupid fucking decision by Israel to attack Lebanon... Oh yeah, remember those two kidnapped Israeli soldiers? Looks like Karma struck US back in a unique way... "GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip - Masked Palestinian gunmen ambushed a car carrying a Fox News crew in Gaza City on Monday and kidnapped two journalists, according to witnesses and Fox."
i pretty much agree with everything you said.. bush pisses me the fuck off...israel didnt defeat shit..
Israel decided to wage an ILLEGAL war, and use illegal weapons (i.e. white phosphorus and depleted uranium). They killed hundreds of men, woman and children. Nearly half of the lebonese killed were in fact children, in an absolute reckless and indescriminate near-genocide. Mainstream media was attempting to force-feed us absolute bullshit lies, and a hugley biased idea of what was really going on. The world simply refused to accept this blatant massacre and demanded it stopped. For a change, the wheels of the U.N. turned and a resolution was reached. that is it. I hope this peace lasts for the sake of peaceful families and inviduals in the region. Hezbollah is indeed victorious. They have just as much firepower as before, MORE support, and more resources available to them. There are now THOUSANDS and MILLIONS of people who support hezbollah now more than ever. All Israel succedded in doing was making more enemies and slaughtering innocent people, in the name of stopping "terrorism". Lebanon has been reduced to rubble, AGAIN, and it will be a long time untill they are back to where they were before this sporadic little hissy fit of a war began.
EDIT: as soon as i finished this article, I saw a report that 10 Hezbollah missles have been fired INSIDE lebanon. This peace may had indeed lasted not nearly as long as the world had hopped
Exactly. I feel that by merely surviving this, Hezbollah came out victorious. By the way, did anyone read about Iran's International Holocaust Cartoon Contest? "TEHRAN (AFP) - An international contest of cartoons on the Holocaust opened in Tehran in response to the publication in Western papers last September of caricatures of the Prophet Mohammed. 'We staged this fair to explore the limits of freedom Westerners believe in,' Masoud Shojai, head of the country's 'Iran Cartoon' association and the fair organizer, said." I think this is a smart and witty response...I wonder how the West will react
Yeah I read that...but most people in the Middle East had bittersweet optimisim about the cease-fire. Luckily, the rockets didn't cause any casualties or damage.
This war will never be over. You cannot change peoples' opinions on religion etc by blowing them up. To them, it is not an illegal war; it is what must be done. The US have given it this name as outsiders looking in; they cannot possibly understand the reasoning behind these conflicts. America need to butt out of it; it isn't their problem, and their presence is making it worse, and turning it into something it isn't/shouldn't be. That's my take, anyway...
Isn't that what America does? If it's not coming to our home, than it's absolutely necessary to interfere, even more so than when it's directed as us. I hate the fact that in my lifetime, this country has been "led" by power-hungry fucks. They claim they want peace and yet still send arms to other countries in an effort to assist them with their turmoil. Just.. Fuck dude, let everyone else be. Concentrate on the homefront. If all the troops were to be brought back, that would only make it that much easier to catch people who are commiting crimes that effect our own country. I'm moving the fuck out of the states. I heard B.C. was pretty chill.
