Is cbd strains seeds like fatherhood, you know, something that you'll never be 100% sure unless lab tested? Buying high thc stains is easy to tell, after properly grown, if the breeder's promises are real.... But I am looking for med-high cbd strains, and I guess it would be easy to mislabel a strain (with or without fraudulent intentions) and to brand a low thc as cbd rich cultivar. Does it make any sense or am I getting paranoid? What is your experience with cbd strains from seeds?
Testing is the only way to know for sure. Even the best known breeders make mistakes and send off the wrong seeds. I've grown a photo-period called CBD Critical Mass by seedsman that was a 1:1 of around 7%. It felt like the high we got from 70's weed. I've also grown a Fastbuds auto-flower called CBD Crack which was also a 1:1 strain with around 7% THC/CBC ratio. It too gave me a high similar to weed from the 70's. I didn't have either tested. So, I cannot tell you if they were just low THC strains or actually had CBD in them.
Buy from a reputable breeder/distributor, and do your research and you'll be fine. I trust seedsherenow.com
I grew one 1:1 strain from Mephisto, which I consider pretty reputable. I smoked some and got just ripping high. After getting the lab results back it was 20% THC and 0% CBD. Some of the research I’ve done shows that the mixed strains like 1:1 and 2:1 need lots of generations of breeding to lock down those traits. It seems like the strains where the goal was just CBD and no or very little THC are more consistent. I’ve heard from lots of folks the ticket is to shoot for the best CBD only strain, and then just add some THC weed to your bowl or whatever if you want balance like a 1:1. @Smokey B McBongwater knows quite a bit about the CBD game and strains, I’m sure he will chime in. Cheers Os
I grew 4 CBD deisal from cropking seeds. I got about a lb cured. The germination rate of these ain't great. I had 5 resent last year and I'm thinking the same again this year. The seeds popped a little then stopped. It's supposed to be 20% CBD and -1% THC. Everyone likes it , it feels like when a drink just hits your body, relaxed with no head high .
CBD strains can be tricky. I grew the same Mephisto 1:1 strain Organic Sinse did at pretty much same timeframe. Mine wasn't tested but smoked just like his tested - high THC, low to no CBD. I've purchased a fair amount of 20:1, 1:1, 2:1 strains from local medical dispensaries and every single bag tested different on each strain, with pretty much no consistency at ll. 20:1 strains that are zt times barely 10:1, and 1:1 and 2:1 strains so far off no point even calling them that. even growing my own CBD strains is very non-consistent. 20:1 strains that you can still feel THC effects at varying levels. As Organic Sinse already mentioned, best would be the best CBD strain you can get hold of than just add what amount of THC strain you want to balance it out. During my research it seems that growing the plant just for CBD and very little or no THC can get very tricky. not sure where you are, but I'm in the USA and in 2018 they legalized Hemp production for commercial use - whether is be flower, extract, or fibers. But it's tightly controlled and must meet compliance requirements. Problem is that even seeds breed for hemp usage is hard to control the THC levels. All crops have to be tested during the grow, test within 2 weeks of harvest to be compliant with the .3% or lower THC and harvest within that 2 week window or have to test again. if crop tests over .3% it has to be destroyed. Such a large percentage of commercial grows since 2018 have had to be destroyed because the testing showed over .3%. Growing your own, and dispensaries for rec and/or medical face same issues. Grow plant for 3-4 months and it tests out completely different than it's supposed to and in many cases now useless. One of the best medical CBD strains I've found is called ACDC. my local medical dispensary that sold it stopped. They said it was too difficult to grow and make it worth their while. they offer another CBD strain but not nearly as good. I'm now currently growing an ACDC plant but I have no idea how it will actually end up with correct results or not I won't know until after harvest, cure, and a good smoke test. I'll let you know in approx 120 days. LOL LOL The only real way to possibly know what your THC / CBD levels actually are is having your plants tested, or if buying from a legit seller look art the listed levels. I never bought from a rec dispensary, only medical ones, and all packages are marked with all the tested info of CBD, THC, and a lot of other cannabinoids and terpenes. hope this wasn't too rambling and it made some sense. I just got home from work, took a huge double bong hit of what was definitely not CBD, LOL, and then saw this thread OS tagged me on.
Thanks a lot for all the info I am getting =) Seems like I was on point with my understanding and limited expectations on cbd strains. Especially for those so called 1-1, 2-1 or else. Poor true breeding like pollen chuck makes it impossible to stabilising such specific traits. What I am looking for is a cbd only strain. Like suggested, I could add a little regular weed and make my own balanced mix. I don't have the resources to make a decent pheno hunt with lab testing. I live in Canada. Legal recreational cannabis is grown by licensed producers, and sold by the government. (This vary from each province aka state, but this is how they handle it in Quebec where I live.) Every batch needs to be lab tested by 3rd party and containers are labelled with cannabinoids %. Strong Cbd lab tested at 18% is about 3,50$ a gram. I love to grow my own but maybe dispensary for cbd would be the best...
I often take CBD oil 5 - 15mg every time I smoke to balance out the THC. I grew CBD Critical Kush/Cure once, it was nice, subtle but pleasant, kinda like vaping.
That’s pretty damn cheap. I would even buy that at the store. Do they happen to tell ya the strain name at the dispo? That’s one avenue of research I would look into. I can only imagine how much of a mind fuck I would have had, if I didn’t have mine tested. I remember asking Smokey how CBD high was different than THC high. Cheers Os
I know I am not supposed to discuss sourcing on GC, otherwise I would linked the website. Almost all strains are labelled as «in rotation» (probably they are selling their own pheno hunting). Labelled strains with less than 1% thc includes ACDC, Cherryblossom, and Cannatononic. Looking at them closely shows that they either exist or come from thc strains or in the 1-1 ratio we discussed. That's why I wanted to ask others with previous experiences, because I would be pissed spending 4 months on growing for useless strains. Things would be different if I was living like in California or Oregon, were nurseries openly sells clones that were tested. Maybe someday, Canada!
Let me preface this by saying this is just my opinion. CBD strains are not worth the effort of growing them. The vast majority of them taste like hay. It would cost more to grow them (especially indoors) than it would to purchase a 99% CBD distillate @ $6 bucks a gram. I personally would rather consume CBD mixed w MCT oil and added to my smoothie each morning than having to smoke it. I can tell you this from experience if you decide to make hash from a CBD strain use the 25 micron bag. The trichomes are much smaller than THC strains. I only grew about a half dozen CBD strains before I quit growing them but I can recommend HoneyBells (Delicious Seeds?) as one that actually tastes decent. It’s quite possible I just smoke too damn much. I don’t notice much of anything smoking a CBD joint and definitely couldn’t notice any nuances between ratios. All that said if you are covering your THC needs and CBD is your jam it doesn’t hurt to fill the rest of your canopy with it. Like I said just my .03 cents on it, perhaps something to consider, and by no means trying to harsh your mellow. RD
Thanks RD for joining in. Me too I think I am smoking too much to appreciate the subtleties of cbd over the regular 20 ish % thc I am smoking a few times a day. Doctors let me knew I need to lower my thc while cbd could be better. Mostly, I just want to keep enjoy smoking! So yep, taste matters a lot. Otherwise would smoke straight grass clipping! **Reminds me when I was in college living with barely any money, I did tried to roll a joint made of parsley hahhaha =)
I remember one summer when I was around 15 yrs old we couldn’t score a bag anywhere. So we decided bong hits of clove was a good idea. Thirty years later and even thinking about it turns my stomach. Lol RD
