I saw the Hubble movie on one of the largest screens in the world. It was at the franklin institute on Philadelphia. It was over 4 stories high and like 70 feet across or something like that. The theater is in a dome shape and the screen cover one half of the dome so there is screen all around you pretty much. It was AMAZING! It felt like I was flying through space with 3D effect of the stars passing by you. Highly, highly recommended if your in the Philly area. Edit: here's a link to the theaters website and a picture (not very good quality) for a reference to how big it is. http://www2.fi.edu/theater/imax/theater-info.php http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1308/5189939802_0972cce700_m.jpg - peace, joy, love, and light
It's hard not to love the guy. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2pfwY2TNehw]YouTube - We Are Here: The Pale Blue Dot[/ame]
Agreed he showed you the real magic of our universe using pure science and captivating wordplay. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XGK84Poeynk&feature=BF&list=PL4CAA7C0639FEA4D4&index=49]YouTube - Symphony of Science - 'We Are All Connected' (ft. Sagan, Feynman, deGrasse Tyson & Bill Nye)[/ame]
I was pretty close to starting a Carl thread, but then I realized, "hey, some of my fellow blades probably already started a thread on such a boss". So, I searched and found this thread But anyway, Sagan was the shit. The bees knees. Número uno. I mean, I feel like such an idiot trying to hold down a post about such an awesome dude. I'm currently finishing up Hawking's "brief history", and I'm pumped to dig into the Cosmos next. I don't consider myself good at math, or chemistry, or anything with numbers really, but I've realized that you don't need numbers to enjoy a topic such as space. All you really need is a want/desire to learn as much as you possibly can about it without your dome exploding. And dudes like Sagan make it easy for JohnDoe to (begin) to wrap their minds around something as infinitely complex as our universe. So props to Sagan; I'm sure if he was kickin' it today he'd roll up a fat one with all of us and just blow our minds with his godlike intelligence. Real talk- he was just a straight up dude. A really smart straight up dude.
We need more people like Carl Sagan and less people like Sarah Palin. What an absolutely brilliant mind.
I once smoked 7 bong pack then watched 2001: a space odyssey. The combination of kubricks cinematography and dank really left an impression on me. Soon after I took an interset in astronomy and got particularly into sagan's work. I found his ideas very creative yet very logical and it really opened my eyes to how important astronomy is. I've read "Billions and Billions" and many of his essays. He inspired me to take up astronomy next year and I'm really hype and I think it's pretty cool that he blazed and was still a renowned intellectual.
