These are a few reasons I think Cardboard box's are better for growing than PC cases Advantages : 1 : Bigger area ( Bigger pots , Bigger lights & BIGGER plants ) 2 : Easier to cut the box ( Ventilation , hanging lights & making the box bigger ) 3: Absorbs heat ( Doesn't reflect onto plants ) 4: Lights can be easily adjusted 5: No time needed , stripping Pc down 6: You can have more than 1 & It doesn't look suspicious ( Veg & flower ) 7: SCROG & SOG - Can be easily Installed & NOT TO FORGET THEY ARE PRICELESS ( You can ask your local store If they have a spare box or 2 ) If anybody can List advantages Of a PC case , It would be much appreciated =-] - ATTENTION : Corrugated cardboard ignites at 800F (427C) So The box Isn't going to burst Into flames with a few lights / Even If you didn't have ventilation ( Exhaust Fan ) It still wouldn't catch fire ; ]

its not a arse replay kiddo. its true. a nice PC case looks awesome a cardboard grow box looks like crap. lol. you dont value style and aesthetics. maybe its the artist in me.

Hi, a PC grow case is super stealth. If you rig it up right and put it in a non-suspicious location most people wouldn't even notice it. They are good for like college dorms, or work camps......super heat score places. Cardboard is better if you have no security issues. Having said that if you do create a grow op in a cardboard box, you will eventually want to upgrade to like a grow closet of tent.....like I did!!!!!
Hi sherm , thanks for the post - I totally agree with you =-] & I certainly will be upgrading to a closet Or Tent - I'd would rather build my own grow room than buy a tent , I have built 1 before ( I still have a 600watt HPS bulb , ballast & reflector - but that was a while back when I only just figured things out about building a grow area . . . I've only just got my own place & I'm struggling to pay for my way already , SO I'm going with the cheapest way for the time being Cheers for posting man

Yeah I'll take a lesson from him and not be so mean and negative next time... Sorry man, didn't know telling you to use plastic instead of cardboard because its extremely cheap and a lot more sturdy... Guess I'm a real ass hole.
As was said before, you CAN have 2 or 3 cardboard boxes laying around, and no one will notice them, same as the pc case. Depending on the size of the box, you can grow a lot more than a pc case. But, if you don't have much room, then a pc is better than a box. But, IMHO, it comes down to lights. If you use cfl's, then no problems anywhere. But if you use an HPS in a cardboard box, there is more of a fire hazard than a pc. It might not be too big a risk, but the risk is still there. I personally am growing in a pc case I built myself, and I gotta say, it was a bitch to make. I can definitely see how a cardboard box would hold an ease of construction value. This thread has actually gotten me thinking a cardboard box just might work.
No, they wont even come close. I didn't really say anything rude at all. You might be taking my use of the word fucking as rude... but really its just a descriptive word used to emphasize how silly it is to use cardboard when plastic is practically free. I've received maybe a couple warnings (Not even infractions) in my 2+ years here. I'll try again though, since you're more sensitive than most. If you're going to use a cardboard box, you may as well go to walmart and pick up a plastic tote bin for $4. Your risk of an electrical fire among other problems will be drastically reduced. Also, a plastic storage bin looks pretty normal anywhere.
As has been said, I think the reason people were growing in PC cases is for the stealth prospects of it. But it is also more sturdy and still less of a fire hazard (better safe than sorry). Also, cardboard when wet becomes very mushy (when dealing with accidental spills and stuff), a PC case won't. I am actually busy planning one myself right now in a server case (not going to go through with it till I have everything and all knowledge at my disposal)

I agree With you , absolutely a pc case Is more stealthy If you have 1 & you don't need a big Carbon Filter , with Duct pipe coming out of It ; ] ( If you have to cover up the smell that Is ) About the box getting wet , yes I have heard that myself a few times - I'm always careful when watering ( I take the plant out of the box ) & leave an Inch of pot so no water runs of the edge .... It's all good buddy I'm just thinking about the box at the moment. It does offer great insulation prospects, and with a decent Mylar lining you'll be sorted. Humidity should not factor too much into the sturdiness either. I'm going to think a little more on it
