Cardboard box grow ?'s

Discussion in 'First Time Marijuana Growers' started by Bladestar, Mar 6, 2016.

  1. Hello all, im starting my first indoor grow soon and would like some opinions. Please take this as serious as you can i am aware its ghetto as all hell. But onto my questions, do you blades think this will burn my place down? Useing three 23 watt 2700k cfls will this be enough for one plant? That's aluminum foil on the walls btw. I know theres only two lights plan on getting one more and adding two fans. Any comments are much apprecated

  4. You can start out using just a couple of those 23w bulbs but you'll want to definitely get more of them going to see any decent growth. Go get some splitters if you get six of them you can have eight of those bulbs going. That will surely work out for you. Won't be the greatest thing but it does work. I use 12 of them together and mix up the spectrum, keep in mind you have to keep them about two or three inches from the plants to get the most out of them as well.

  5. Btw you're going to want to put some ventilation in that box. Air circulation is a really big deal. Good luck.

  6. You have to try and get some circulation in there. It has to be over a 100* in that box. It's a good start you just need a couple fans one for intake and out take. You really don't need all that tin foil, but that's my opinion, cause that's gonna make it really Hot in that box especially if it's sealed shut! It won't burn ur house down lol them bulbs don't get that hot. Good Luck.

  7. I would stay away from cardboard, or any flameble material. It is not worth it to chance loosing your place. Stay safe. I hope this helps

  8. With some intake and exhaust fans and maybe another 50 watts so 100 -150 watts, what do you honestly think the possibilitys of a fire are?

    And yield?

Thanks anyone who posts gets a like =]

  10. The rule of thumb is a minimum of 100 actual watts per plant. So you'd need a minimum of four of those bulbs to grow one "small" plant. That's minimum though so you'd be looking at minimum yield as well. Probably be looking at maybe 1/2 oz yield off one plant if you are lucky, given your conditions. That all really depends on the strain and so many other factors bro. You're honestly going to be disappointed if you expect anything out of your first few grows. It took me about six tries and several months of heartache before I finally got any plants to go from beginning to end result. I've got a few grows under my belt now and I still have issues from time to time. It's all about Just getting a plant going and seeing how it reacts to different things. Dial it in to the environment. They are resilient plants and can take a lot of stress. Trial and error plays a big part. Honestly I don't think you're at much risk of a fire but I don't think you're going to get the results you want out of that box. I'd personally suggest getting some Rubbermaid bins going. You could easily grow one plant in one and have it setup nicely for super cheap. They tend to be more structurally sound too. Hell most people have everything they need laying around the house somewhere. You just have to be creative. This forum is full of awesome information bro. Just read and read and you'll eventually come across bits and pieces that work good for you. Best of luck bro.

  11. Btw if you keep the box don't spray paint it. You'll probably increase the risk of fire by doing that. I'd get some Mylar or some sun shades from the dollar store and use that.

I doubt it will cause a fire but is it worth the risk? You are going to need more watts in there if you want to actually yield anything, a general rule of thumb is around a oz per 150 watts of actual consumption. I would keep the aluminum foil if you cant get your hands on mylar, take a trip down to your local homedepot. You definitely need intake/ exhaust fans im sure you already know that because of how hot its getting with two lights. Other than that good progress keep us posted i will sub for now until you get your journal going.

    Best wishes

Oh and i would also add that 2700 is better for flower while 6400 is better for veg. some growers find they like using duel spectrum throughout the entire grow. dont forget 1/4-1/2 strength on nutes and if you are useing organic soil you wont need nutes for first few weeks you will fry seedling.

  18. I'm gonna just go on point just like the earlier poster since I have had one of these catch on fire.
Sure you can, but really, do you have to use cardboard? It would be safer to harvest signs and stuff people leave laying all over the place.. Though I don't advocate theft, I do advocate keeping a clean community by getting rid of unauthorized sign postings on public property.. Good luck.

  20. CFL Lights got to hot and I believe there was a failure in one of the slight sockets. I was home when it ignited so I was quick to put it out, but regardless, a really major danger. I had two computer fans, push and pull, and I think 400w in cfl in a four say lamp splitter, which I believe what the failure since it was melted worse than the cord.
There are too many plastics etc that are available basically for free. If things are so tight you are using a cardboard box to grow in, not saying you can't, but you are going to have a tough time without spending a little. Just my opinion.
