Your question is pretty vague, hard to define if these sheets will "work like a normal carbon filter." These sheets will work pretty well, given the amount of carbon surface area you are passing the air through. Compared to a big bag or box of carbon, no this won't work as well because it is a lot less carbon. These sheets are convenient and easy to work with because they are made to go into furnaces, air purifiers, etc. Air will pass through them well. To control a low to moderate amount of odor these should work, you may need to change every few weeks. To control a heavy odor you may need something more robust. BTW these sheets are available at Home Depot, probably other such places too, made by Honeywell.
