carbon filter assembling???

Discussion in 'Grow Room Design/Setup' started by sbt89, Jan 10, 2013.

  1. My carbon filter is to heavy to hang in the top of my grow tent, have anyone heard about putting the carbon filter outside the grow tent and the fan on top of the carbon filter and then the bark goes into the tent in to the top of the tent.

???? Does that work as sufficient as the normal method. Anyone wich has some experience?

  2. No one?

  3. Your filter should not be too heavy... Use chain or bailing wire. If not you can stand it up on the floor. You can put the filter outside the tent but I don't recommend it. They work best pulling air inside the tent. I have a super big filter and I can hang it in my tent.

what he said, the cheap ass mild steel will bend before it shears. it will likely bend beyond its elastic limit i.e. stay bent. no dramas however. It will oxidise very easily IMO so that should be a bigger concern in the long term. Off topic but I would paint it if not already.

I hung mine with cable ties. its about the size of a small child. weighs just as much:wave:

  5. sbt89, I had the same situation. The overhead hangers that came with my tent would have been problematic to hang a filter/fan combo on. What i did was cut a piece of plywood, mounted my combo to it then let the whole thing straddle the hangers. This way you are distributing the weight over a greater area.

Plus you have a partial rigid ceiling if you need to mount anything that is not in reach of your hangers.

    Hope this helps!

  6. wtf???

  7. Dude these tents are meant to be able to support the weight of lights, filters, fans etc. I use a very very large filter and my tent supports it with 4 hoods as well. You are under estimating the tent's capacity.
Look how I set mine up in the past..

  8. This is why you should buy Phresh filters :) Lightest filters on the market, I'm pretty sure.

But yes, you can use them outside of the tent. I have DIY tent so I don't hang anything but my lights up, and don't want to take up floor space. So I put it outside of the tent. Works just fine, no odors whatsoever.

One thing I should have done - only didn't because the filter will be getting replaced soon an/or retired to veg only - is remove the pre-filter and cut a circle out to place between the fan/filter, so the air blowing through gets filtered. This is definitely shortening the life of my filter, but whatever.

My ventilation is all inline. You can see how its set up inside the tent here. Don't mind my el-cheapo DIY cool tube/reflector. I'm a vert grower normally, just didn't have enough beans to surround a bulb so I rigged something up for a quick harvest:

  9. Oh, yeah. This is where I'm at currently. Still not even a faint trace of odor, 3 weeks in flowering. Blue Cheese and Fruity Chronic juice. Definitely stinks inside the tent.

  10. I have a 250mm hanging in mine, i think you will be ok bro.

  11. Mine is 250mm as well should i give it a try it is wilco filter. Maby 60pounds heavy.

  12. If you do end up running it with the fan before the filter...go buy some polyfil or make sure to put the white filter inside the filter as highonthehill said. It will work fine as long as you properly prefilter the air...dust will screw up both the fan and the filter so make sure to prefilter either way.

  13. Yeah it will be ok, just use the straps or some strong chain. You can put a coulple of the roof poles together and strap the filter to them for extra support.

  14. I have a 4x2x5 tent and I certainly dont have room to waste in there, certainly if im going to be scrogging it out. My setup is going to be a 600w with a 6in cooltube over three plants in 5 gal buckets of smart bags. On one side of my tube I'm going to be ducting towards outside of the tent (leaving the other side open to suck air through and out of the room). My ducting is going to be connected to a 6in fan, which is going to be connected to my filter. I dont know if i made any sense lol. My tent has vent flaps and other pre fabbed holes so I can use the suction plus the vents to suck fresh air into the tent, which then is sucked through my tube (cooling my bulb in the process) and so on. I say just experiment with different ways and see which fits for you.
