A new survey shatters cannabis stereotypes, revealing that marijuana users are five times more likely to exercise regularly than indulge in fast food. Discover how weed and wellness go hand in hand.
A groundbreaking new survey is turning outdated cannabis stereotypes on their head. According to research from the Brightfield Group, marijuana users are over five times more likely to work out regularly than to frequently consume fast food—challenging the long-held image of the lazy “stoner.”

Cannabis and Fitness: A Surprising Connection
The survey, which polled over 5,000 cannabis consumers in the U.S., found that about 58% of regular marijuana users report working out at least once a week, while only 11% say they eat fast food that often. This sharp contrast disrupts the classic perception of cannabis lovers as sedentary, junk food-craving individuals.

Instead, today’s consumers are increasingly health-conscious, with many integrating cannabis into wellness routines for stress relief, muscle recovery, and improved focus during exercise.

Younger Generations Leading the Wellness Wave
Millennials and Gen Z users, in particular, are reshaping cannabis culture. The survey indicates that younger consumers are more likely to use marijuana in conjunction with activities like yoga, hiking, and strength training. Brands are noticing, too—products like low-dose edibles and CBD recovery balms are booming in popularity.

    Goodbye Lazy Stoner Myth
“This data completely challenges the stereotype,” said one Brightfield analyst. “Cannabis consumers aren’t couch-locked fast food addicts—they’re active, balanced, and often very mindful about what they put in their bodies.”

These insights are echoed by a growing body of research suggesting that cannabis can complement physical activity. Some athletes even claim it enhances endurance or makes repetitive workouts more enjoyable.

What This Means for the Cannabis Industry
This shift in consumer behavior offers a major opportunity for cannabis brands to reposition their messaging. Targeting health-minded users with fitness-friendly products, educational content, and wellness partnerships could unlock new audiences and reshape the public narrative around cannabis use.

    Key Takeaways:
    • Cannabis users are 5x more likely to exercise than eat fast food regularly.
    • The majority of users report a balanced, health-conscious lifestyle.
    • The “lazy stoner” stereotype is outdated and misleading.
    • Wellness-focused cannabis products are in high demand.
Final Thought: Cannabis isn’t killing motivation—it’s changing the game. As wellness culture expands, marijuana is carving out a powerful new role in healthy lifestyles across the U.S.
