Cannabis to Treat Depression

Discussion in 'Medical Marijuana Usage and Applications' started by HoldFastHope, Jul 6, 2008.

  1. I've found a study stating that THC-like chemicals, and even THC itself, may stimulate cell growth in the hippocampus and thus help to treat depression and anxiety disorders.

I believe I am clinically depressed, which is very possible because my entire family has it.

My mom is pretty relaxed about weed, she believes it should be legal but probably doesn't want me smoking it, nor does she smoke. She doesn't know that I do, and lately we've been discussing depression.

I brought the study to her attention and she was interested. Essentially, I'm asking her for permission to self-medicate (no MMJ in MA) for my depression, because I have found that it really does help me feel more positive to smoke weed, even when I'm not actually high.

I'm not doing this just to get a "free ticket to smoke weed" from my parents; I really believe it could help me. Even if she says no, I'm going to continue to smoke pot, but it would be nice to have it out in the open and not have to hide it from her.

Could you guys direct me to other studies showing the viability of weed to help treat depression? Any other ways to help convince my mom?

    Thanks a bunch, guys.
