So here I am, the afternoon of my birthday. I had just smoked several bongs of some decent hydroponic cannabis, and I was making a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Suddenly I realized what the Marijuana Movement was missing. Mothers. But, I'll get back to that.

In modern American society the things that determine public opinion have little to do with facts and issues and much more to do with who supports the ideas. If the only people who support cannabis reform are either artistic types, or business men, that doesn't appeal to every day America. The average American shops at Wal*Mart, watches soap operas and eats their weight in McDonalds by the year's end. The support that is in the cannabis community is going about reform all wrong, what we need to do is shift support away from lobbies, and straight law reform, and go for public approval.

We need Oprah. If we have Oprah, we've got in clenched. You know how we get Oprah? You guessed it, mothers. Think about organizations such as M.A.D.D., I couldn't fathom the amount of support those women have by the average american mother. We need an organization of mothers for safe cannabis use. Now you ask, "Well, Jarrett. How are we going to get an organization of mothers on our side?". To that, I have one simple one liner that has been used to get things passed for years; "For the children".

Think about it. What's one thing that tears at the heart of every uneducated ignorant middle aged american woman who does not care to read up about facts, and just goes off what the television tells her? Children. Think of the stats, How many parents are lost in drunk driving accidents? Then compare that to cannabis related accidents. Domestic disputes that turn violent, child abuse, alcoholism are all other things that you can compare with cannabis.

We need to be on Oprah, with a group of 45 year old housewives who are proud supporters of cannabis reform. We need children to parade around, we need one child who's dad died in a car accident while he was drunk. We need one child who's dad is in federal prison for growing cannabis. We need one child who was abused by someone every time they got drunk. We need to show that the only harm that happened to the second child's family was due to unfair cannabis laws.

And now, this is when I decide to start an experiment. I will create a petition and at the top of all the fliers and hand outs, it will say "Reform, because your children deserve a future."

sometimes i just write things, i thought i'd share this with you guys. i hope you enjoy reading it.

  2. I think Cannabis, for the kids should be on the top, seems catchier.

  3. well, I've only smoked two bowls so this idea seems lame. :poke:I'll check back when I catch up to your 5 or so.

  4. I havent smoked any and it makes perfect sense to me. lol. get oprah!!

  5. hahaha

maybe, I get your point, it sounds good but needs to be refraised. When people attack marijuana legalization they talk about the kids. "Our children will be exposed, they'll think its okay, And I dont want my child around marijuana."

Rename it, something like, Cannabis for the people, and then say what you have to say.
I get it though, use their argument against them. I just dont see it happining.

  6. awesome man.. Yeah i was thinking about this earlier.. And a HUGE advantage in legalizing it is:

You need NON smokers to want this to pass... Give them reasons FOR THEM.. There isnt enough potential smoker voters to get things past...

Second, when the person you are debating knows you do/have EVER smoked cannabis, then its like your argument and position is instantly thrown out.. This is also why we need people that can say, "I have NEVER smoked cannabis, and i want it legalized!"

That has so much more power and i believe can convert a lot of non smoker people into being on the legalized side..

    Sorry for the poor grammar.

  7. They dont actually talk about kids alot, now they just talk about how bad it is for everything else, because im pretty sure that they know that legalizing it would make it harder for kids to get it. the old "put it behind a counter" etc argument. But the whole thing with the moms and all that bs, its true. get oprah to say hey this could be a good thing, and all the fucking women of america will want it legalized. Or Ellen DeGeneres or something.

There are some non smokers who have realized that keeping it illegal is wrong, and are for legalization, but unfortunately not the ones the public wants to see.

Thats kind of funny if your argument gets thrown out if you HAVE smoked and your for it,...... dont you think that if they HAVENT smoked then they shouldnt be able to be against it??? Thats a holy shit moment for me. It makes so much sence.

  8. I agree the name should not be Cannabis for kids. The argument for legalization when it comes to children is that if it's legal, that children will have less access. I believe many of us can attest to that fact that we could get weed much easier than alcohol when we were young. I don't think appealing to Oprah to get Mom's support will work since most mothers don't want their children exposed to any mind altering substance.

  9. Gee then wouldnt it be better if it was behind a counter and regulated than on the street corner where dealers dont care if you're 9 or 90, as long as you have cash?
KIDS DO DRUGS BECAUSE THEY CAN.
As you stated, its way easier for kids to get drugs (any type) than alcohol. Thats just one more reason to overturn this ass backwards law.

  10. Weed for kids?!

  11. I was going for the lulz.

But seriously, its amazing how many different illnesses and disorders can be treated with cannabis.

Especially true with children, as they can't handle most prescription meds (which, ironically, have much worse side effects, and are less effective).

  12. Ok-

I completely get where you're coming from, and it sounds like a great idea, yet all you stated was that we need to get oprah. We need to figure out a way to do this, as I do not believe it will be too easy.
    Just my .02

Here's a good talking point for mothers.

Drug dealers don't care how old your kid is when selling marijuana. Legalizing marijuana would create legitimate businesses that would have age restrictions. The creation of these legitimate businesses would ruin black market drug dealers (who want marijuana to stay illegal to make insane profits) that use their money to fund gang violence.

man, i can picture it now

I will gladly buy and host that domain if we can get a mother to "start" it.

  14. as a parent, i want to see laws changed to protect my kids. I dont want my kids to lose their future college scholarships, jobs, or freedom because they choose to smoke a plant instead of having a much harmful drink in the future.

  15. Honestly, I'd hate to be advocated by some dumb middle aged woman who doesn't know what she's talking about to begin with. The Civil Rights movement was led by many many smart people who brought to light the facts, suffered for their freedom as Americans and non-violentally fought for every bit of legislative ground. Let's leave the clueless out of this unless you want to look like PETA who uses pornstars and famous idiots to get naked for their publicity.

  16. kannaman-

it's not that i want an organization of idiotic mothers on tv, i want an organization of mothers who believe in the cause who do the same thing for cannabis prohibitions repeal as they do so passionately to get say, drunk drivers off the road. or getting laws passed that you have to be 26, or 5'7" to ride without a booster seat.

I want to have the idiotic mothers hop on the bandwagon because they think it's best for the children.

Comparing marijuana prohibition to the Civil Rights movement is also, kind of ignorant. I mean really after all, all you have to do is meet a black person and you can tell they're a person to. Most people who don't know anything about weed, lump it with heroin. And then they put alcohol on this pedestal of awesome. You can't teach someone like that based on facts. it's people like that who dress up in sheets and try to lynch black people because they think they're "sub-human".

    Slayerktc-

I'm sorry, but really? Jack Herer? This is the legalization and activism sub-forum on a cannabis website. We all know who Jack Herer, and Marc Emery are. The whole point of this thing i wrote was to get people to understand how it works in the US. People don't care about issues. People don't even read into the subject matter when they see cannabis things on the ballot. We need to change those people's minds.

    imthejoker4u2-

you hit the nail on the head.

and to the guy on the first page who said my idea sounded gay.. that's not very constructive. what big plans do you have for the movement?

  17. Fo Sho
Every few years the legal limit drops - Eventually it will be where ANY alcohol will be a drunk driving charge. Wanna know why? MADD

Get those talons on our side, and we can change the world:hello::smoking:
