Cannabis for health

Discussion in 'Apprentice Marijuana Consumption' started by patty-ant, Nov 10, 2023.

  1. Where can I find people who are using Cannabis as a central part of a health improvement plan, so that I can ask them questions.

I need to decide if I will either stop all drug consumption, or use cannabis intentionally.
Recently I was sent to the emergency room at a hospital because my blood pressure was 220/170. After that it appeared as though I was losing my eye sight. Since then my eye sight might be improving.
I think Cannabis can help me with creative endeavors

The way I am affected now, I've been high for about a week. I want to sleep all the time.High amounts of caffeine just make me feel jittery and sleepy. Kratom might be working to keep me awake.

Anyway, how likely is it that I can train myself to use Cannabis without falling asleep?

  2. Hi patty-ant,
I'm "Granny' and I may be one of the people you are looking for. I have used cannabis for over 55 years (I'm 76), partly because I enjoy the high, but more importantly, because it PREVENTS my migraines with daily use of an indica strain. To save myself a bunch of typing, this is me- https://hightimes.com/activism/higher-profile-granny-storm-crow-grass-roots-advocate/

I'm also a bit of a science nerd, and I collect the studies that the prohibitionists say don't exist, and also news articles about those studies. See New 2022 Granny Storm Crow's List You may be able to find some of your answers there. Just open one of the links to start your education.

So what strain are you using? Strains do make a difference. Indicas are great for pain, but they will make you sleepy. I think you may have better results with a sativa strain since they are more energizing.

You should start taking Omega 3. The CB1 receptors that cannabis activates can't be hooked up properly without some Omega 3! The earliest study I’ve found on this is “Nutritional omega-3 deficiency abolishes endocannabinoid-mediated neuronal functions.” Nutritional omega-3 deficiency abolishes endocannabinoid-mediated neuronal functions - PubMed

Here’s the key sentence- “In n-3-deficient mice, presynaptic cannabinoid CB(1) receptors (CB(1)Rs) normally responding to endocannabinoids were uncoupled from their effector G(i/o) proteins.” (n-3 = Omega 3).

I think about CB 1 receptors like a radio - the signal (THC) goes into the receiver (CB1 receptor) which sends the music down a wire (a connector fiber) to the speaker (the G i/o effector protein) and you hear the music (the pain stops/ you get high/ the cancer cell dies).
    .
Unfortunately, most Americans are VERY low in Omega 3, so the receptors don't get hooked up and you get no "music"! Like cannabis, omega 3 is an anti-inflammatory, so they work together to reduce inflammation more than either one alone. This is a lot more important to your health than most people know!

“Excessive amounts of omega-6 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) and a very high omega-6/omega-3 ratio, as is found in today's Western diets, promote the pathogenesis of many diseases, including cardiovascular disease, cancer, and inflammatory and autoimmune diseases, whereas increased levels of omega-3 PUFA (a low omega-6/omega-3 ratio) exert suppressive effects.” From “The importance of the ratio of omega-6/omega-3 essential fatty acids” The importance of the ratio of omega-6/omega-3 essential fatty acids - PubMed

Omega 3 may also help with your blood pressure problem-
“According to new research published in the Journal of the American Heart Association, about 3 grams of omega-3 fatty acids per day appears to be the optimal dose for reducing blood pressure. This level can be attained through either consumption of dietary supplements or food.” From “New Research Reveals Optimal Dose of Omega-3 Fatty Acids To Lower Blood Pressure” New Research Reveals Optimal Dose of Omega-3 Fatty Acids To Lower Blood Pressure

I take 4 grams of Omega 3 every day. My blood pressure was 113/80 last time at the doctor's office. I take only 1 pharmaceutical- natural thyroid pills (thyroid insufficiency just runs in my dad's family). I can bend over and place my hands flat on the floor. I read medical studies on a daily basis, and I feel like I'm in my 50s! The combination of cannabis and omega 3 seems to be working for me! :GettingStoned:

OK, I think that's enough for now- I don't want to overload you!

    Granny

PS, you can't talk about other drugs at Grass City.

  3. Thank you! I can't tell if I will be able to cope or not. I have been using various tinctures. CBD/CBG/CBN. Then I noticed that I got high from CBN and that seemed interesting. So I tried some indica tincture and also sativa. I don't know more beyond that.

My reaction is very different than it was in the past. The effect lasts very long. Several days. I want to sleep, much of the time, which I can't live with. It's changing a little. The effect helps me direct my attention at some life goals, so I haven't given up yet. If I'm unable to function, I'll have to stop.

  4. One month in, and I'm still using cannabis. I still have concerns about my energy level, but I am sedentary. I have the typical short-term memory glitches. But, the benefit of being able to sleep regularly and the change in my mood make it difficult for me to think of stopping now.
