Cannabinoid Hyperemesis!?

  1. I've been trying to find out more about it and its hard to find answers

Can you guys please help me with a few of my questions please.

    What is it exactly?
    Is it caused from weed?
    How do I prevent it?
What are the chances of getting it?

  2. Supposedly it is chronic vomiting caused by smoking marijuana. It is a bunch of bullshit with no hard evidence. It has as much evidence as saying pot causes toe cancer. So don't worry about it because it will never happen to you.

  3. If it might cause this, does weed affect your intestines? I read something about marijuana drying up intestinal fluids

  4. Not that I have heard. Marijuana is used to help treat a fair amount of symptoms caused by intestinal issues.

It is a very real thing, those who say it isn't real are uninformed. There isn't much information about it because it is still fairly recently discovered. I know a couple people who have had "marijuana morning sickness" or cannabinoid hyperemesis, and they couldn't figure out what was causing it. The vomiting and nausea stopped after quitting smoking weed. Personally, I think it has to do with how much and how often you smoke, but I could be wrong. It's not a chronic illness, but from what I understand, it's like waking up with a stomach virus and you can't help but throw up.

  6. It's definitely a real disorder. The cases I've seen include medical patients who are using a gram of extracts a day or more, or huge doses in edibles. I really don't think it's something the average user has to worry about

  7. Honestly i feel like this every morning during class but then i eat and im fine

  8. Does a person with this have to stop smoking weed forever or just for a certain amount of time?

  9. I've never heard of this (or experienced it). I'd like more information on it as well.

  10. Did I hear a request for information? :yay:

Cannabinoid hyperemesis is a cannabis overdose. It is rare! I think that just as there are people who make too little in the way of endocannabinoids,...

Clinical Endocannabinoid Deficiency (full - 2004)
Clinical Endocannabinoid Deficiency (CECD) - Russo

...there are also folks who produce a over-sufficiency of endocannabinoids! Now normally this isn't a problem, but if they get totally wasted on pot, their body rebels! You got too much of a good thing (like eating yourself sick on candy ).

Now on an "animal level", the way you would get those extra phytocannabinoids, would be to eat it! So your body does the logical thing- it goes into "purge mode" and you vomit!

Hot baths take care of the hyperemesis (severe vomiting) by inflaming the skin and using up some excess cannabinoids to get rid of the red skin. (The endocannabinoids like anandamide get broken down and used up, easily)

OK! Now for the studies! :hello: Here's all you ever wanted to read about cannabinoid hyperemesis, and likely more! ;)

  11. Thanks granny!

  12. I am a 20 year old male living in southern orange county and for one year maybe a little longer, I have been and in a unforgiving cycle of nausea and vomiting usually occurring every month or lasting for up to a week at times. It sadly became a part of my routine..It would start off as this, I would suddenly wake up and have literally all of the symptoms (nonstop vomiting, extreme pain etc)I had been in an out of emergency rooms, having had numerous tests done and always being told by professionals it was my eating habits or from an unknown cause maybe even psychological. They stated the only cure for chronic gastritis was to not irritate the stomach in general with spicy foods. Antacids and Pepcid quickly became my best friend. Then last week I was back at square one for the millionth time. After 4 days of repetitive vomiting I made it through like always and then decided I was well enough to smoke some concentrates out of my bong with a newly purchased titanium nail. After doing so, I felt completely fine and even hungry. I ate a bagel and had sum jello thinking it was all in the past..After a few hours my stomach pain was returning, this made me uneasy and rather than smoke more i just thought I could sleep it off, Man was I wrong, upon waking up I was running to the toilet and feeling like I was back at square one, I was retching and vomiting up nothing but bile and acids for the better part of the day and eventually laying in pain and having my mother worried sick about my constant vomiting and inability to eat more than that one meal for the whole week, I was caressed into thinking the hospital may be a good option even though I thought I had already known what they were going to say. Instead of going to the hospital five minutes away I went to a different yet much nicer one in yorbalinda-placentia. Walking in at 8pm on a sunday night and being the only one in the nice smelling high quality furnished waiting room was an unexpected surprise. After five minutes i was greeted by a nurse and welcomed into the back. Did all the vitals and etc..told them of my past opiate use and also my participation in a nearby methadone maintenance program for heroin addiction and currently 10months clean. Walking into the back I saw the doctor who remembered me from the only other time I had been there for an unrelated arm injury. He was a very nice man whom had very good people skills and read all the symptoms. With a quick glance and a smile he asked if I was a chronic marijuana user. Ofcourse I said..yes. He also admitting to using marijuana all threeyears of highschool in newzealand he proceeded to bring up his hands and wave them over my abdomen said "wallah I've cured you!" "You have a condition called Cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome" or CHS, it is growing more common as marijuana become more readily available and consumed. He printed out a wiki articles and wrote a prescription for promethazine, other than that he said there was nothing he could do, it was all up to me stopping usage. Although devastated that the holy substance I had been using to treat the horrid symptoms were the cause, I was grinning with relief that finally someone could tell me something that would completely cure and not just alleviate. Last night I had vomited a few times but woke up midday feeling a bit better after a long nights rest. Currently today at 6pm I am returning to my self but am worried that growing confidence will cause me to relapse on cannabis or hashoil (wax). In other words, I may not be the best writer nor give the best sentence structure or analysis but I beg that you not simply disclose the original poster as "full of shit" Although I can not say for certain everyone will experience any symptoms I can definitely say I have. This whole ordeal has offered a wake up call. Maybe my stomach will be less sensitive to foods and ill have the energy to lift again, it sucks the only cure is stopping completely...but I just happen to be one of those unlucky few in the percentage. Live and learn

  13. The only time I've ever vomited from weed usage was the very first time I smoked and it wasn't from the high but more from fact that I burnt the shit out of my throat.  I get that same gaggy feeling everytime I use a dry piece and a couple friends have this problem as well.  I think most of the people who have this kind of problem from smoking weed have the problem because of the excessive harshness of whatever they are smoking out of.

As far as weed is concerned though, for most people it actually helps reduce nausea and vomiting

  14. I wonder if you'd be less likely to get this by vaping? I've never heard of this, but I assume moderate users have little to worry about? Or so I hope..

  15. Bear, cannabinoid hyperemesis is rare! I have been toking for over 45 years and have never had a problem, nor have any of my friends experienced it! But there are MILLIONS of cannabis users, so it does show up enough for the scientists to do their studies! If you keep your use moderate, you have nothing to worry about! This only happens to heavy, frequent users, like me, and so far, no prob! :smoking:

  16. If you have it you have it, if you don't you don't. If you can smoke now and not get sick chances are you won't develope it randomly. There are a few blades on here that suffer from it badly and are more then happy to explain it for you. I can't remember their names or i'd tell you to pm them. It's a real thing but like granny said is very rare.

  17. I to was diagnosed with it. I started throwing up every morning for a little bit and it gradually got worse to the point were i was throing up and dry heaving for 20 hours a day and my stomach pain was so bad. I noticed it illeviated when I showered so i was sitting in the shower for 5 or 6 hours a day just because it was the only time i wouldnt throw up or or have pain. i smoked more and more figuring it would calm my stomach down. One hospital eventually took my gal bladder out (later on realizing that it was perfectly healthy) I was in and out of 9 different hospitals from penssylvania  as north as main and as far south as connecticut. One hospital eventually figured out it was cannbinoid hyperemesis and within a week of not smoking I stopped throing up I have never thrown up since. On top of that the pain has never come back.

Cannabinoid hyperemesis is real. I did not believe it when he told me at first but you cant argue results and experiences.

  18. oh i forgot to mention i smoked farily often. roughyl half ounce a week and had been for 8 years consistently. it is something that develops in very few people and it has to to do with metabolism and some other medical mumbo jumbo that i did not understand when the doctors explained it to me.

  19. Hey guys I have tons and tons of questions because the specialist I'm seeing at the moment thinks I may have this but I have been smoking for less than a year. I'm pretty sure he's just saying it because he looks like he'd never smoked a day in his life, one of those smart nerdy kids in the class that kept to themselves. So I don't know what to think, and on top of it I've had mono for the past 3-3 1/2 months as well and I've had severe pain in my stomach and spleen and I have undergone tons of tests and we can't figure out what the problem is. Crohn's and ulceritive colitis run rampant on my moms side of the family with 3 of my 4 uncles. I don't know what to think but my dr wants me to quit cold turkey for 4 weeks now and then see how I feel, but when I'm not high I'm in extreme amounts of pain and when I get high it all goes away. I'm at the point where if I don't smoke I can't eat or shit or sleep, and lately money has been right so I've rarely had weed for the last 7 days in which I've slept 16 hrs and eaten 5 solid meals and not a thing else, and by solid meals I mean for shitty ass cheap fast food. And I'm sure that does me no good, but anyway I was taking huge steps(not really is be able to go out but I was always in pain I just was stubborn and didn't want ppl to know. I just wanted my life back) forward in my bout with mono, my dr described it as "full blown mono" I couldn't get out of bed for 2 weeks my girlfriend had to do everything for me besides wipe my ass. Sorry for the awful spelling I'm high and tired and stressed. But I have a problem and I'm finding research that seems like a he-said she-said kind of thing, and fuck I hope this isn't it because my Dr is basically telling me pot is causing these problems most likely. Fuck I ranted sorry, basically all I'm asking is if my dr is full of shit, he couldn't tell his ass from a hat with my symptoms until I said I smoked weed then he just attacked that. I'm an athlete too so I'm just hoping this condition or whatever the hell may be wrong with me doesn't mess that up and this is the first link when you type in "cannabinoid hyperimeses" in on google. But yeah so is this real? Would I have it? I've smoked occasionally for a year and more often the more and more I've gotten sick, now I have to medicate in order to feel better and be able to do things out in society albeit only for a few before I'm on the pot again, I went from going to the gym 2-3 times a day to workout and being out for 18 hrs a day to basically being bedridden for 3 months only getting up to shit, pea, and puke or gag if need be.

  20.

People that think weed has no negative side effects are just riding some high horse.  Same kinda people that say there's no such thing as weed addiction.

Totally right about how much and how often.  I personally believe it depends on how much right before bed and also I notice it when I've been smoking to gain an appetite throughout the day.  I think it also depends on what you much on before bed.  I'll get it back if I chow a bunch of junk food before bed.

If anyone is experiencing this I think it just means time to cut back a bit and regulate when you smoke, set some boundaries.
