Cancer?

Discussion in 'Experienced Cannabis Enthusiasts' started by GetWallyBanged, Aug 3, 2006.

  1. Okay, so everybody's heard at one point or another that smoking marijuana causes harmful results to your lungs, producing things like lung cancer, emphysema, etc. I'm sure there has been a thread like this before but I would like some recent views that i could ask to clarify or something. also, before you say "don't ask a bunch of stoners" they are biased" c'mon id rather hear it form you guys that some biased government crap that's also biased, just the other way (against pot). no flaming please

  2. Smoking anything will damage your lungs. This is a fact.

The only reason less stoners than cigarette smokers get lung cancer is that there are far less of them statistically.

  3. actually UCLA has just finished a long study dating back to the early 80's and concluded that smoking cannabis does NOT give you lung cancer..... and thats a fact!

  4. well sure just because your burning up your throoat and lungs but that doesnt bother me sooo much .

  5. Link, please?

I find it very hard to swallow than any kind of smoking is not in some way detrimental.....

  6. that sounds crazy...i dont think the amount of people matter though, because it works on a percentage. on a certain probablility that smoking causes cancer or some damage to your lungs.

  7. "Study Finds No Link Between Marijuana Use And Lung Cancer

People who smoke marijuana--even heavy, long-term marijuana users--do not appear to be at increased risk of developing lung cancer, according to a study to be presented at the American Thoracic Society International Conference on May 23rd."

Ahhhhhhhh ... see what 15 seconds in google can do?

  8. dont they use medical marijuana to TREAT cancer?

i dont think you should worry too much about the smoke, unless you happen to be a fireman, or inhale just as much smoke as they do. you could always use vaporizers... ;)

  9. ^wow you just worked the shit out of grenouille yeah, the chemicals in cigarettes cause your alveoles in your lungs to close up, trapping tar, which is why they give you cancer. weed on the other hand opens up the alveoles, releasing all the bad shit, which is why weed doesn't give you cancer

  10. Er.....what?

  11. yeah bandit, Ive heard that before i guess. to explain grenoulle or however you spell it your lung isnt a big bag its abunch of little sacs and i assume alveoli are those sacs or openings or whatever but they close up and bad things hapen. what about any other kind of lung related illnesses?there has to be more that can happen than it chars your windpipe.

  12. My guess would be that smoking does impair the function of the cillia, because cannabis still deposits tar in the lungs. The tar buildup prevents the cillia from moving properly, impairing the ability to clear the lungs of foreign matter, which might lead to more respiratory infections.

  13. I know for a fact smoking weed is not good for your lungs, I ride bicycles daily long distances and I also smoke weed daily. I cannot keep up at races or at long rides becuase of smoking and I know that is the reason. Do I care? No, but is it bad for my lungs, absolutely. It seems to me were all just being oblivious, you cannot believe everything you read off the internet, but I am not saying youre am wrong. The heat from the smoke damages the cilia in the lungs which breaks down the cleaning properties of the lungs as delaWHERE said. I am 100% positive smoking weed is not going to be nice and soothing on the lungs and I am positive it is damaging as well. As for cancer causing? Possibly, I wouldnt doubt it no matter how many studies I read. But just beware, every good has its bad. And to deny the fact that smoke in your lungs, unfiltered and super hot is not good and yes probably carcinogenic.

Think about the inside of your bowl/pipe whatever. It is black. Do you think resin just stops at the end of the pipe? no... it goes into your lungs.

edit: This was in that same article. "The study found that 80% of lung cancer patients and 70% of patients with head and neck cancer had smoked tobacco, while only about half of patients with both types of cancer smoked marijuana."

  14. Just because weed doesnt give your lungs cancer, doesnt mean its not hurting them.

  15. edit: you posted the link too, heh

but as someone else already stated, it still deposits tar on your esophogas(sp) and lungs... which can lead to infections and emphyzema(sp)

  16. thanks for the feedback I was kind of concerned but i guess im better now...? I dont know how this got in "seasoned tokers" i put it in rec marijuana use weird

  17. Makes perfect sense to me.....

  18. I don't get the people who say they'd never believe that there's no link between heavy marijuana use and cancer...

if you have solid proof, why wouldn't you believe it?

if you want to avoid pretty much all health risks of marijuana, vape it or eat it. however, smoking it has been discovered to NOT cause lung cancer.

  19. Some people just believe what they want to believe......which is kind of naive if you ask me, 'cos with blinkers on, one cannot see the train approaching.......ya know?
