Canadian Winter Grow Questions

Discussion in 'Grow Room Design/Setup' started by Deleted member 1064240, Aug 17, 2018.

  1. Is a 400w bulb and ballast combo enough heat for -15 winter in canada in a 4x4 or 3x3 insulated shed? Just trying to not use a 1500w little space heater if possible.

  2. not at all have you a storm cellar?

  3. haha i wish. im having a 10x10x8 shed delivered next week sometime and is just curious the ACTUAL heat in a 3x3 or 4x4 space. might have to run a heater since night time temps with light off would WAY too cold.

  4. mmmmm no fucking way. the bulb may put off enough heat to keep the tent warm but you're going to need air circulation or co2 for the plants, the first being your down fall. and even if the bulb was enough the word shed doesn't sound too confident in keeping heat in so along with a space heater your going to need some insulation for when the lights go off if the lights keep the shed warm enough to begin with.

for the most part you're going to have to do a lot of trial and error.

  5. Yeah in the first post it says "insulated". I have blueprints of my grow on my other posts. Will more then likely end up getting 2x315w LEC's but since most people on here either use cfl or 400w bulbs id thought id use 400w since more people would be more familiar with them. Only down side of using the LEC's is they arent air cooled hoods since it can get up to 35C in summer time here.

But yes keeping the heat trapped in the shed might not be an issue since it would only pop on at night when the inline fans are off (air flow fans still on in room), making the heat stay longer if the 400w combo gave enough during the day.

    thanks for the reply man

  6. hey depending on your electricity bill you could section off two areas and have opposite light schedules going. say a veg tent going 24-16hrs a day and a flower tent doing 12/12. but ya all this preparing for winter is going to be a bite in the ass come summer.

  7. Just spent my whole day clearing out a part in my mud room and made one 2x4x4 and one 4x4x4 rooms out of styrofoam, ill upload some pictures tomorrow of it. it should help with heat in winter and ac in summer since its part of my house, it even has it own screen door to the outside i just insulated lol. looks like the 400w systems are a bit much for that space now lol i havent even looked at LED lights fml

  8. Grow autos in the winter, run 24/7 to keep the temps constant.
