Canada's Coalition Government.

  1. Just wondering what all of you think about this.

I personally cant see any down points to it. All 3 government parties have great ideas to make the country better. Why not combine them. This way we can maybe move forward politically and economically instead of the shit storm of a government we have now.

Anything to get that fascist Steven Harper out of office.

  2. Where have you been for the last 30 years of Canadian politics?

  3. This is bad news all around. Harper was bad, but that's no reason that they should team up and beat what's left of democracy. The liberals got their weakest response (correct me if I'm wrong) ever and now they want Stephane Dion to rule the country? Fuck this shit. They said that they knew this was necessary when Stephen Harper didn't introduce a stimulus package.

What an interesting time in CANADIAN politics we are in. I hope that this event can excite people about our politics a little, cause our election turnout 7 weeks ago was only at 59.1%.

    Here are my thoughts:

We live in a democracy. The basic fundamental behind the concept of democracy is that we are to be governed by ELECTED OFFICIALS. I understand that our policies allow for a coalition to be formed, which is a whole different matter all together, but I feel that these leaders of the three opposition parties are pissing over one of the very special aspects of our country, and that is our democracy. I consider myself closer to the Liberal side of the spectrum than Conservative, but find myself in the Torie Blue west. I am not supporting Steven Harper, nor the Conservative Party with my democracy statement, I am fighting for democracy as a whole.

My second issue is within the coalition parties. I feel that having two, or more parties running our country just wont work, but if there has to be two parties that are active in Canadian Politics to work together it would be NDP/Lib. My issue with the parties, is that we absolutely do not need a coalition government to be 'propped' up by a party that want to destroy, and leave our great borders. The Bloc Quebecois, and Gilles Duceppe want to separate from Canada, and unfortunately, over the past number of years, Canadians have continued to say no, and I feel that their minor involvement with a potential coalition government could be dangerous.

I feel that, while I do support moderate socialist policies, that one of the best ways to stimulate an economy, any economy is to put more money in the hands of the public. That is what the current Conservative government is planning to do. I wrote an article this week concerning the issue, and my local MP told me that their plans for the economy, in cutting some taxes, should equate to $200 billion dollars that will be injected into the economy. I don't feel the opposition parties needed to jump on this fact, as the Canadian Economy is not in AS BAD of shape as some.

The publicly funded political party side, I do feel is something the Conservatives have done wrong. My MP told me in response to a question on the matter, that they are making sacrifices, to help the economy by cutting this funding. The other three parties will have to scrounge come the next election. I feel that this plan is what was identified by the opposition parties as the opportunity to pounce, and duly so. If this funding is cut, we will be under Conservative (Republican) rule for a very long time.

I would much prefer to hold another election. As much as I feel that the Conservatives would only slowly lose seats if another election was called, they would still be in power. I want to vote again, because it is our right to choose our government, and while these parties will be representing 62% of the population, 62% of the population voted for DIFFERENT PARTIES, not a Liberal/NDP coalition. Give the Liberals, the NDP, the Green Party, even the Conservatives one more chance to campaign and WIN OUR VOTES, not overthrow an elected body!

Just my 2 Canadian pennies worth!

    (edit: forgot to mention)

In 1933, Roosevelt legalized the sale, production and comsumtion of alcohol, firstly because of how unpopular the law was, and secondly, to tax the production and sale of alcohol to help steady the recessed economy.
Canada made the same move years earlier, province by province.
I feel that if any one of the 4 primary political party, the Conservative, the Liberals, the New Democrats (NDP) and the Greens, were to make a move to either legalize marijuana to help stimulate our ailing economy, or decriminalize, which is step one to legalization, they would hands down win an election.
This fact can be applied to any one of the countries currently fighting economic turmoil, and not as a daily pot smoker, but as a human being who wants to see peace in our world, and economic stability for me to one day feel that cannabis/hemp/marijuana, can in fact save the world.

  5. Couldn't be happier. Harper has been man handling his minority from day one. I consider this to be the absolute pinnacle of our democracy.

  6. I don't think that Stephan Dion should lead the country either but anything is better than Harper.

I would like to see NDP running the country but they are prone to fuck ups as well so a guess its just a lesser of 3 evils situation.

Voting NDP seems to be a step towards democratic socialism.

I do not fully understand what you mean.

  7. Yes, you've made that quite evident.

I'll let your comments speak for themselves.

  8. Candians suffer from bickering between rival parties more so than most western countries I have seen do politics. Sometimes shit resorts to name calling, kind of remidns me of the story of how the donkey/elephant came to being in the two major american parties.

Before I go sounding like a anti-canada blade, let me tell you I wish Stephen Harper was the president of the United States, he is an honest politician and all the excessive spending needs to be refined in Canada. I wish the same could be said for the United States, hell we haven't had a true conservative in years.

  9. This made me chuckle :p

  10. Prime Sinister Stephen Harper is a dope. Even with one of the strongest attack ads and media campaigns Canadian politics has seen in years he was only able to achieve a minority. His government wasn't putting together a stimulus package for our economy and the other parties took charge. Love him or hate him, Stephane Dion is a brilliant man and if a coalition takes power, he will be in charge until the Grits hold their leadership vote in spring. Michael Ignatieff or Bob Rae are likely to take over for Dion so that's good news. As far as the ''getting in to bed'' with separatists issue is concerned... this is all conservative bullshit. Harper used the bloc to pass budgets and had plans to use the bloc in the same way when Martin was PM. If we want to see Marijuana laws loosened I think we need to get that boob out of office.

  11. This is absurd. Why on earth would you give this government until Jan 27th. Nothing has been done about our economic situation and nothing will be done with these clowns on break. GG Michaelle Jean should have let the coalition take power, although I'm curious to see what Prime Sinister Harper will come up with in his budget.

  12. Because they've only been in session two weeks, and the party has agreed to concede the most contentious points in the latest budget.

Have you actually been following the budget? Because that's just plain wrong.

  13. Imagine, that now, under pressure, Stephen Harper turns to hemp and legalizing marijuana. :smoke:

  14. I'm well informed, I'm just a bitter liberal. It was an exaggerated rant... :)

  15. not sure what to think as a marijuana user? watch the well informed opinion of criminal lawyer Kirk Tousaw:

  16. I just watched two minutes of it, what does any of this have to do with marijuana?

Furthermore, why would somebody accept, as an authority, a criminal lawyer, concerning a federal constitutional matter?
