Hey all, Throwing this question out for the group. Can you tell the sex of a plant, or better, do these plants show sex while in veg? I have read on some other threads that some folks veg UNTIL the plant shows sex..I thought their photoperiod had to be switched to induce flower, at which time the plant shows you his or her goods. I currently have a veg tray that's over 5 weeks in veg, I won't have the space in my flower room for another 4 weeks at least. Some in the tray are from clone, some, most, are from fem seed, also another first, so it would be nice to be 100% sure I had females before I flip them. I've noticed on a couple of the plants that the leaves are staggered up the branch, much the same way the girls began to do after I induced flower. Any comments??? Help??? http://forum.grasscity.com/indoor-m...room-my-first-indoor-grow-2.html#post15227413
They will show there sex in veg but only once they reach maturity so if your in veg and you start to see the odd white hairs or a ball then there is your sex in veg
Plants will "pre-flower" sometime around the 6th to 8th weeks of vegetative growth. Typically around the 12th to 14th branch set. The flowers will appear where the internode branch attaches to the main stem. White hairs are a good indication of a female plant but always be cautious not to pull a female you think is male. Male plants will usually sex out before Female plants. I put my males to the "side" and allow the plants I think are Female to soak up more light until I can be certain what is what.
Thank you very much guys, I'll keep an eye out. I had planned on taking clones and backtracking to make sure I had females even though I had fem seeds, but if I can identify BEFORE I go to flower, I'm way ahead...Again, thanks very much for the quick info! I'll keep ya posted.
I have read quite a few times that it does not take long at all for a male pollen sack to open and release pollen so be on the safe side and remove those pesky males asap
