Can you grow with a blacklight?

  1. I'm VERY limited on resources and I was wondering if I COULD use a blacklight to grow a plant that I've started, I know that the spectrum is off and that it isn't ideal, but will it work?

  2. No, There was a sticky about this.

  3. Those curly CFLs will work! Check the dollar store, and also call up your electric company- just say you want to save energy - and sometimes they will give them to you free! (I got some like that once.) Even Walmart and such have them for reasonable prices!

  4. Thanks for the input man, im trying to keep costs really low because of another little all natural operation i'm putting some money into. Lmao

Lol, well CFL's are about as cost effecient as you can get. I went to home depot, they usually have CFLS in 4 or 5 spectrums all together in their lighting section.
I got a 4 pack of 23w=/=100w CFL's for $5 and change, cheap, good on electricity and they dont get hot at all.

  6. That's pretty nice but man, but how much would a fixture for them cost me?

  7. Cost efficient?? Not highly educated, howeverr i do believe thqt although more efficient than tubes, cfls are not efficient... you want efficient go 250out hid... best baang forr the buck if you want good production for low cost.. whats your high kilowattt charge on your electricity bill?? They usually vary depending on usage but at the high side its probably 9 cents at most... thats like 25 dollars a month at 18-6 lighting... just an opinion, slightly educated, however noobie nonetheless...

  8. Actually I would like to add that I use T5's HO 53 watts and they kick ass but are kinda pricey to start but my last grow I did a side by side comparison with a 400 HPS and there was really not a big difference between the two. As for the CFL's any normal light fixture will work. I buy the fixtures with little hoods at the hardware store for 10 bucks.
