Can weed cause an anxiety disorder?

Discussion in 'Apprentice Marijuana Consumption' started by rawrfish, Jul 6, 2011.

  1. Plain and simple guys. Can smoking a ton of weed daily cause an anxiety disorder that didn't exist before?

  2. idk the exact answer to this but i think it can, cause im pretty sure it happened to me

  3. No it can't. Just stop being a pussy.

  5. Wrong. It can cause depersonalization/derealization disorder to people with pre-existing anxiety disorders.

There are several documented cases of DP/DR even on grasscity forums. I posted a thread about a year ago about my experience with DP. It only affects a very small percentage of weed smokers, but it can cause problems in those who are pre-disposed to certain conditions.

  6. Sativa strains may certainly engender anxiety, as may immature weed. It wears off.

  7. yea its happend to me even when i dont smoke, i just got in the habit of not talking since thats what i do when i'm high, and even when i'm not high now i find it suuuuuper awkward everywere i go. im also dreading next school year bcuz i have no friends at my new school, i've been going here for 2 years now and still havnt made any friends, at my old school i was "in" with the "cool" kids. now i just dont talk to anyone because all year 8th grade i tried making friends but somehow failed, i see now why, its because i lack social skills. but even back then, i didnt get anxiety over social situations, if someone didnt like me i didnt care, i also didnt care what people were thinking about me. but that has all changed recently since i started smoking on a regular basis, everytime im in a social situation i cant stop my mind from racing, i start to sweat, panic, and i've puked twice. i always think people are thinking about me no matter what, i always make every non-awkward situation awkward because in my mind i think every situation is awkward and so i act awkwardly in every situation. it sounds funny but it is impossible to stop. i notice when it's coming on and once i notice it beginning it just blows up and makes it worse.

  8. that sounds similar to ocd. the thing is that you're RESISTING it once you start thinking that it is awkward. the key is to JUST ACCEPT it. Realize it's just a crazy, irrational thought and laught at it. i kno it's difficult but it will work. I guarantee it. It's sort of like a self-made rewiring of thinking. And thinking is where most of our negative emotions/thoughts come from. Cure the thinking, cure the negativity. It's like a self-made cognitive behavioral therapy, which is completely natural and has nearly guaranteed success when done right. I had the same problem as you did, but that was from off topic stimulants which are way worse for anxiety than weed is.

  9. ^Name calling....Really? Come on and treat one another with respect and don't mess up this dudes thread or trash the city with that kind of treatment of one another. It really is not cool!
I agree if you just relax into it and go with it, it will be fine. I recall when I first started smoking stumping my toe or something and it would feel like I would need my leg amputated the pain was so bad.
After a while I learned that the beauty of it is you can control it. Crazy thoughts could lead to anxiety for anyone who rides em out. I still at times am thinking oh fuck why am I thinking this? Then I realize it does not matter cause I don't care.

  10. yes, so very true. some wisdom here, op, listen up. It's all about overthinking things.

  12.

  13. Yeah, I believe so.

  14. It doesn't cause the disorder itself, but it can worsen anxiety during the duration of your high. Though, for some people, it can help relieve anxiety. It depends on the person.

  15. Anxiety is mind-created, its there because you choose it to be like that.

  16. youve never had real anxiety then

  17. No. If you've ever experienced real anxiety you would know how ridiculous that notion truly is.

  18. no, he is right. I've had plenty of anxiety, was put on antidepressants, had quite a few panic attacks, tried a bunch of medications for it. Like i said earlier, it all comes down to your own thoughts creating a sense of danger when there is no danger. It's basically your brain tricking your body. Your brain activates the fight-or-flight response when it doesn't need to be activated.

  19. yea i forgot to say, in the end i stopped all my anxiety just by distracting myself and realizing it is indeed ALL mind-created. You have to rewire your own thoughts, that's what cognitive behavioral therapy is, and that's why it's so successful.

  20. note tho: i never said it was easy to rewire your thoughts. Hell no, but that doesn't change the fact that it is created by the mind. Now if one was on stimulants or something that's different. Those are infamous for straight up causing anxiety but even then, not for everyone.
