can using a 3rd party N64 power supply cause the system to overheat?

  1. i was wondering if a 3rd party n64 power supply can cause the system to overheat more than a normal nintendo brand power supply? also does anyone know exactly how hot a n64 that's properly cleaned and functioning should get after 4+ hours of play time?

  2. If it's a piece of crap, yes.

Also, power supplies degrade over time.

  3. Did you buy the power supply off of ebay? If so can you post a link to the listing?

I bought a 3rd party power supply off ebay for my xbox a few months back, and it turned out to be a counterfeit piece of shit, you could hear parts rattling around on the inside. If it works I would assume it's fine, just put your hand over the N64 to see if it's hot or don't use it for more than an hour or two at a time.
