So i had something really strange happen to me while making shatter that hasn't ever happened to me before. I usually make clear shatter and I've made it about 100 times with the vac and all, but today something strange happened. I did what i usually do, blast, hot water bath for an hour, scrape and then put it in the vac (without vac, but with heat) for a couple hours, and then pull vac on it. But this time i fell asleep and it sat in the vac chamber at 100 degrees (without vac) just heat, and when i woke up i found this. (the picture attached) I know this isn't purged fully because i usually vac purge for 72hours (depending). Can someone help me save this? how can i purge this more? Possibly turn back into shatter or at least a more pure product? Someone help please! This is about 20 grams.
also for what my blasting knowledge is worth, maybe look into winterizing/ making it dissolve again, throwing it in the vac for 30min-1 hr tossing it in the freezer for 1hr, then critique product? :shrug: just a suggestion that I've only tried once. turnout was so so off of some top shelf AK.
To properly winterize the dissolved solution should be frozen for 24-48 hours to allow waxes and lipids to precipitate out.
Just if anyone is wondering. I managed to save it. What I did was dissolve the wax into some ISO, since ethanol for winterizing wasn't readily available. (Ethanol would be the best option i think, but this worked pretty good) After dissolving the wax into the ISO I put it on a 100 degree water bath for 24 hours. Then scraped it up and transferred it to parchment paper. Put it in the vac at full vac (-27hg, max where I am) at100 degrees for 24 hours. This was the result. Rock hard shatter I'm going to give it another 24 hours at 100 in the vac to be sure everything is purged out. Hope this helps someone else. Sent from my iPhone using Grasscity Forum
