Can someone help me analyse this?

  1. So I've just brought a Q for $75. Through a friend and much cheaper than normal (usually $90-$100). I am stuck as to whether I'm just being picky, or have no idea what I'm looking for exactly...

Got quite sick a couple of months ago (coughing blood etc) and I came to the conclusion a possible cause was from weed rot/mold (which my previous stash had after I finally researched why it looked like it did). Being much better now, I don't want to go down that trail again.

Could some experts please let me know whether or not this looks like ok/safe weed? I don't know whether the photos do the colours justice but it's the best I could take.

The ground up herb was the bit's I thought looked the best. The other photos are the other portion that I didn't think looked the same.

    Thanks in advanced.

  2. Doesn't look moldy or anything it just looks like it has been sitting chillin for awhile cause a bit of the leaves are all dried up and stuff

other then that id say give it a go and see what happens lol just remember to take the seeds and stems out

  3. Sorry to hear about your respiratory illness man!

It can be hard to spot mold from photos, and that classic mold smell can be a dead give away.

I can't see any mold on the buds but that does NOT mean there isn't mold on your buds.

I will say they don't look super fresh, like they've been in storage for awhile..

  4. It looks fine to me, but looks aren't everything, smell is a good indicator of quality (as well as identifying any adulterants) as well as feel and being able to closely examine it in person. I've always kept my bud in good conditions, so I've never had any firsthand experience with mold, but from what I've read it smells musty and non-appealing.

Based on the pictures, I don't see any mold (as mold is typically pretty identifiable with pictures of this quality) and notice that whoever grew the bud did a slapdash trim job on it. Other than that it looks like some decent cannabis.

My suggestion would be that if it is causing you any noticeable adverse effects on your body (not ones induced by paranoia either) that you should stop smoking it and try and find some quality bud to see how your body reacts to that. Coughing up blood is not a good sign though, and at that point I would cease putting any smoke in your lungs by any means, and consult a physician.

Thanks for the kind words all and thanks for taking the time to assess my situation.

I know for a fact it doesn't look like what happened to my previous stash (which is good) and upon closer inspection, it almost looks as though the buds were dried in an oven as the stems had a small (but noticable) darkened colour change as if you held a flame there but didn't combust anything. I guess that could be the reason why the leaves look darkened.

As for smell, it's sweet but not overwhelming nor un-welcomed. Texture (after grind) appeared to be quite sticky so I'm guessing this is good :).

I left the first half over night to dry out after grinding and when comparing the first grind to the second, there was a noticable colour difference so I'll be surely letting this lot air as well (here's some photos of the herb ground up - what do you think compared to the first lot (what I thought was better) in the first posts).

In regards to the illness, I am asthmatic (unfortunately) and use to have it quite bad when I was young. I grew out of it during high school and only on VERY cold and dry nights do I require one or two puffs of ventolin. As much as I have improved, it still makes me more susceptible to getting things like bronchitis etc... I use to smoke weed for 4yrs until this time last year I purchased a Magicflight launch box - Cannot praise this device enough!

What makes you say that? From the photos, it looks fine to me.

Mold is usually caused when it's stored while still fairly wet (<15% moisture). So if it is moist, there is a higher chance you have a case of moldy weed.

Advice: First smell it. If it smells of mold (musty and not-nice), it probably has mold. Second, look at the buds all over (and inside if you can) for mold. It's usually either white/grey "fuzzy/silky" stuff, odd black/dark-green patches or other odd colourings.

A moldy bud from somewhere here on GC:

  8. Looks good the nugs arent too nice but the grinded bud looks good. Enjoy vaping that up in your MFLB!! Im tokin some stem oil in mine right now with my PA :smoke:

  9. looks like forreal good bud but i've never seen shittier looking nugs. is that how you usually get it?

  10. I see yellow and brown leaf material, sloppy grower with deficient plants might harvest early. I'd pay half price, even if it's good bud.

  11. good bud grown bad

  12. that looks like a sativa

  13. Thanks for that pic and info. When I was grinding and separating the bud into smaller pieces I didn't notice anything like or to that extent.

Have one more trench of my old stash then onto this new stuff. How do you find the PA? Highly considering purchasing one in the future ;)

Unfortunately, my last few buys have been less than satisfactory to look at. I long for the days I could get nice green bud but alas, haven't for a few years now. Trouble is, I don't know any dealers first hand. It's through trustworthy mates (who won't pinch any) but I scarcely am handed over something aesthetically pleasing :(
