Can Someone Evaluate My Plants Progress Please?

Discussion in 'Growing Marijuana Indoors' started by Shan1784, Feb 26, 2019.

  1. This is my first grow and she's a durban poison grown from fem seed which was purchased from growers choice. About 1 month 3 weeks from sprout, grown in 5 gal hempy 3:1 perlite/vermiculite, 2x qb288 5k @ 75w, 1x qb96 v1 5k 40w, 18" from canopy. In a 4x4 tent, running gh flora using lucas method for nutes as well as silica, calmag, and hydroguard.

I've been slowly ramping up nutes week to week as well as turning light intensity up. I've defoliated twice now and have shoots tied down and occasionally adjust to pull the canopy open. I also topped the main shoot a few weeks back and pulled the main shoot over to even the canopy out.

My concern is I thought she'd be farther along then this. I was wanting to flip to flower at 2 months but feel like she isn't big enough. She's got a really thick stalk but just refuses to grow taller.

I just ordered a couple of those TNB co2 bottles to try out. The tent is in my basement and nobody ever goes down there so thought maybe not enough co2 for her??? I do regularly do air exchange using inline fan for exhaust and duct fan for intake but am experimenting with turing that off to see what temps and humidty does in preparation for adding co2.

Just looking for ideas and opinions on how she looks based on the info I've given.

    Thanks for the help.

  2. durban poison likes warmer temps in the 80's for veg and flower , below that you will get slower growth . She looks healthy though

  3. Looks very healthy, what’s your humidity at? Lower humidity leads to slower growth as well

  4. Humidty started out mid 60's and I have dropped them to 50-55. I've been lowering it weekly.

  5. My temps are around 75 lights on 71 lights off.

  6. You’ve got everything dialed in it sounds like. How high are your QB’s cranked?? You’re more than likely staying short because of the QB’s I’ve been having this issue too!! They are so intense they just keep plants short and bushy doesn’t matter about the genetics or anything in between! If you want some stretch back your lights off and dim them you’ll start getting that vertical growth!

  7. Really? My 288's are set to 75w per board (2) and my qb96 is set to 40. They are at 18" above canopy. What is yours set at and how high?

This is something I struggled with getting set so glad there is someone that had the same issue.

  8. Well my 96’s are in my flower tent so they’re running full power always.

My (4) 120’s are currently set to 20 watts at 20-24”. So like 5 watts a board but they’re above seedlings currently. The best thing you can do is grab a lux meter on Amazon and measure your PPFD so you know where you’re at wattage isn’t gonna five you enough details to really know what your plants are getting in regards to light intensity.

  9. You don't want to lower it. You want to keep your RH at 60%. Preferably 65.

  10. I thought a lux meter didn't give reliable results with leds. I just put my light up to 24" from canopy and dimmed the 288's to 60w per board. Will see what that does.

  11. I was under the impression that humidty over 60 can open me up to mildew. Is this not the case? I've got good airflow.

  12. Lux # / 64 or 67 will give you PPFD or close enough to gauge it it won’t be exact by any means but close enough.

If you don’t feel like dimming than raise them a tad. Like 6”.

  13. No higher than 65% as long as your airflow is good you shouldn’t have issues with mildew.

  14. Here’s a chart that should help you with Temperature and humidity. It’s called a VPD chart or vapor pressure deficit. If you don’t know what that is I’d google it and get an understanding for how it works for cannabis.

  15. I did both. I dimmed them down 15w and raised it to 24".

  16. Give it 48hours and see what happens. These things are a bit tricky on the learning curve especially without having meters. At the point you’re just guessing.

  17. Yes! This is what I originally targeting. Problem was I was seeing this issue with slow growth so I strayed away. But if it's due to my light intensity and height I can go back to trying for VPD.

  18. It’s a combination more than likely. That VPD charts extremely important in regards to vigorous growth. Upward growth is the plants trying to get to enough light to keep them happy for a bit.

  19. So revisiting this here, I did more reading and research on plants that are short and bushy and seeing others having similar issues. What seems to be a popular response is leave it alone. People scrog, lst, top, etc to achieve a shorter bushier plant.

So I guess my question now is do I need to be concerned. I mean it is growing, it's thick, lots of nodes. I'm thinking about it and feeling better. Is that wrong? Is there anything bad about it being on the short side?
