Can pets(cats) detect and articulate what we say? (I made my kitty cry :( )

  1. I know the title sounds a bit, odd. But today something indeed strange happened with my cat. I was on the couch and my young kitty, Bella hopped up on my lap and immediately started purring, nothing out of the ordinary.

But as I was petting her I began to tell her how much I loved and adored her, wishing I could see her grow up bring dead things to the door. But that I had to leave, and that the days I remain at home dwindle to the single digits and soon I must leave her and everyone behind for the military as it is my only logical choice for advancement. I told her that she has a wonderful home, great care and friends, but I can't hang around here for much longer and to be a good kitty for my brother and parents, and they they will take great care for her. And almost on queue, she looks up at me and I see her eyes moisten and soon she has full on tears running down the strands of hair cropped out of her cute button nose and face which prompts a single tear to stream down mine. Then proceeds to rest her chin on my arm will a strange offbeat purr.

I don't believe, not even in my elder cats have I ever seen an emotional response to me like this before. I have been with her since day 1 and now month 18. I must leave her. For good, and after I said those tears immediately began to flow.

I known and seen dogs cry after their favorite master hasn't seen them for a long time, but to have a cat of all things cry after a small exchange of words... Is bewildering.

Has anything like this ever happened to anyone?

Anyways this is her, shes an 18 month old Himalayan Cat. The most beautiful I have ever seen. [IMG]

  2. I feel like animals can kinda get what you're saying if you have that kind of connection with them. Like a mental thing. That sounds entirely possible to me man. also good luck in the military

  3. One of my cats is a very emotionally attached to me. When I had taken her in for a check up shortly after I adopted her I brought up the fact that she gets tears. Now honestly at first I thought she had some kind of illness causing runny eyes. The vet said that since there wasn't any alarming discoloring that she was truly just crying.

Since I have been off of work for a while being at home a lot more she hasn't had any teary eyes. But as soon as come home from being away for a majority of the day, she will get all snuggly with me but she will have wetness and tears on her eyes/face.

I think some people underestimate what their cats can feel towards them.
I'm sure that one day when you visit (I don't have the greatest understanding of military, but I'm sure will eventually get to see your loved ones again) she will remember you and will be all sorts of in love with you again.

  4. Weeping is a sign of pneumonia in cats. There are many causes for this, some is just allergies to dust, others can be severe warning signs.
