Can MJ greywater be used for vegetable garden?

Discussion in 'Growing Organic Marijuana' started by sachidananda, Jan 6, 2013.

  1. I was thinking the other day that it would be cool to have a drain system set up that took the water from my MJ grow area to my vegetable garden, considering how expensive (and valuable) nutrients are.

Is this a good idea? Anybody hear of this?

This might be a silly question, but would this create a false positive on a drug screening from consuming these vegetables that have been watered with this grey water? (may sound stupid, but please don't be a dick--there's likely less experimentation with this than people with opinions of how stupid the concept is.)

    Thanks

  2. Sach'-

Do you garden organically? If so, I can see no problems using the grey water from your MJ grow on your vegetable garden. If you use chemical nute's, a definate NO. Run off from a chemical grow will be high in dissolved salts, which kills the microbes in the soil. Using chem' nutes AS WELL as using grey water high in dissolved salts is a recipe for disaster! Dead microbes and serious pH issues.

I would say no to worrying about "false possitives" in drug tests. I'm not an expert on cannabis chemistry, but I know a little. It's my current understanding that cannabinoids are produced in the leaf of the cannabis plant and not in the root zone. Therefore, no cannabinoid residuals would be present in your MJ grey water run off.

    Peace-

  3. Yea, I use General Organics nutrients.

I tend to think you're right about the latter. I just wish we had proof!

  4. What type of nutrients are you referring to?

I believe that compost and mulch would probably work better in a veggie garden...but it certainly wouldn't hurt - unless they are chemical nutrients...and then it will work great for the first season and crappy after that.

  5. Just saw you had GO products - no, it won't hurt anything - may help some. The best bet though is still compost in a fluffy soil in a veggie garden.

  6. Thanks. I have the album (or single or special issue--can't remember) in your pic. It was acquired by way of the fan club.
