Have a 1500 watt MH ballast and bulb that was given to me recently, but that thing gets so unbelievably hot that it scares me to leave it on too terribly long. I was just curious if I could possibly use a lower wattage bulb w/ the ballast... Maybe like a 400w - 1000w? Thanks for ur help in advance!
I think you're talking about a ballast being "dimmable", and I believe it depends entirely on the ballast you have itself. Some are, some aren't. The ones that are usually have a knob on them where you can "turn them down". If it isn't dimmable though, I strongly suggest you don't put a lower wattage bulb in there. I don't know what it will do, but it probably will not be good.
I don't think you can either. I believe the same amount of power will be output and probably burn the bulb.
