No, the smoke goes through the water to cool it down, I'd imagine your smoke will be pulled straight through.

The only thing that seems to ever break on my bong is the downstem. Mine definitely needs a downstem to actually work properly, but if you fill yours up and give it a test bubble you'll have your answer.
that will work just as you said. have the bowl's stem in the water with a tight seal and youll be able to take hits. but you have no way of clearing the chamber, so youll have to take long hauls Sent from my iPhone using Grasscity Forum
