Can I sue my Physciatrist?

  1. So before I started to go to a phsyciatrist for ADD, I was completely fine, going to school, no depersonalization, no depression, everything was pretty much content. Now after I saw him for about two months or so I dropped out of high school, I've developed what seems to be serious depression, I've been diagnosed with derealization/depersonalization, he gave me Anti-Depressants and other medications which if anything made me a lot worse than I first was.

    Can I sue him?

  2. you can sue anyone for anything. Now will you win? Meh you could pull some malpractice shit and possibly win. Talk to a lawyer if your serious about it

  3. This.

You can always sue somebody, the issue is winning.

Do you think it was the psychiatrists fault?

EDIT: I didn't read the post properly, didn't notice about the prescription of anti-depressants.
My guess is he was trying to help you, so you'd be unlikely to get money out of him,

but I hope you get things back on track. best wishes.

  5. I don't understand why you're contemplating suing them.. What exactly did they do to you? I've dealt with depersonalization, and I will say it's a horrible, horrible thing.. I can diagnose you with anything, it doesn't mean it's right, though.. If you're having complications with medication, quit taking them, or switch to something else. You willingly took whatever medication they prescribed to you.. I highly doubt you'll win anything, but don't let me cloud your judgment, do what you think is right, man.

  6. no he didnt make you take the medications.....you are an adult you can chose to stop whenever you want and chose to stop going...

  7. I've always wondered this too.

When i was younger the doctor prescribed me paxil, which made me a fat slob and it made my suicidal thoughts worse. It also "worsened" my bipolar. It started out as some minor depression and escalated into a fullblown problem.

I'm convinced it was the meds that changed things, but i have no proof.

I wish they'd stop prescribing shit right off the bat. It's fucking insane. Why not get to know me and my problems better before literally writing me off?

  8. I dont think the problem is prescribing, its prescribing shit that they don't know the effects. My friends bro is bipolar and was like a little iffy at first, sometimes he would leave during movies and just not say anything. He got on meds and was ready to kill himself. The doctor told his parents they just had to find what meds and dosage was right. WTF does that mean? Meanwhile he is on like his 6th drug with all the different dosages in between and they are still searching after a year. They found one that calmed him down, but after a month of taking it, he became violent. They shouldn't have given him shit if they didn't know the exact results.

  9. Everyone reacts differently to different drugs.
It's often a thing of trial an error, until they find the right remedy.
But that is a shame that it's people's minds and lives at risk.

They wouldn't have prescribed it if it hadn't helped with the condition in the past.

It's the whole idea of medicating every little problem you disagree with, psych meds as a whole, not this individual who probably had good intentions.

  10. Can you sue him? Yes.
Will you win? Not a chance, and I am 100% confident in saying that.

You have no proof that the prescriptions are what caused your illnesses to worsen.

  11. There's no chance you'll win. They'd have the best of the best as far as a legal team goes. Just because you're seeking recreational meds and he didn't give them to you doesn't give you a legitimate reason to sue him. They always start off with alternatives before moving you up to the 'harder' medications. Did you expect him to give it to you like candy?

  12. Shit, first time I went into my phyc. I walked out with a Vyvanse script. Easy mode?

  13. My girlfriend of 4 years is bipolar, as is my best friend of almost 8, so I'll address some stuff in your post:

Doctors still don't know very much about the disorder, and a lot of the drugs could still be considered "experimental". It's the patients obligation to read those big pamphlets they give to you with the medication. They give it to you for a reason. It's not like not having the instructions for a model car. It's about something that you'll be putting in your body, likely for the rest of your life. You want to know for yourself what it's going to do to you, and those pamphlets tell you.

That's extremely common behavior. He's not a unique case as far as things like that go.

Also common. The suicide rate among people with bipolar is very high.

Everyone reacts differently to different drugs. It's pretty unlikely you'll find the perfect medication for you on the first try.

My girlfriend has been switching up for 5 years now. My best friend for about the same amount of time. It's a very complicated disorder.

Like I've been saying in this post, there's really no telling what side effects each individual will have. It's just a gamble really.

  14. Some doctors do give it out like candy

Of course every doctor is different as well, and some are a lot more liberal with the medications they give out. Others are just very concerned about their patients developing either physical/psychological dependence or selling it. It's a major problem for the pharmaceutical companies.

  15. Well I guess my chances of winning aren't that great then, my head just feels so tense and cloudy and like about to burst and a feeling of just complete downness. Nothing I do is helping me feel better, I did some graphic design work and that didn't help, I cant hang out with people I just feel sorta disconnected from them and myself.

  16. Taking someone to court is pretty expensive, and a lot of work. You can't just pay somebody to do everything for you.

  17. Uhh, if a bunch of fat teenage girls can sue McDonald's for getting fat, then I'm sure you have a shot.

But it'll be very expensive and enduring. Probably not worth it.

Same here except I got Adderall.

  18. He doc. seeked completely benzo'd out, slow talker, droopy eyes, likely opiated as well.. I'd only assume because I would be if I had a script pad. He said he could tell I had 'ADD' by just talking to me. The fuck? Lol..

  19. Idk man, there is only one problem. My closest Uncle is a lawyer and I asked him about this.

YOU went to HIM. Did you sign anything? and i mean anything? because there is a good chance that you agreed to let him treat and diagnose you, plus there might also be some sort of agreement where you could opt out at anytime you felt.

You can still sue of course, but you might need to throw down mad money for a real good lawyer.

  20. This is fucked dude. You're going to a physcaitrist because you want help. He/she offers that help, but you dont like it so you sue them? Their doing there job and trying to help you.... Dont fuck somebody over like that, its just not cool.

It sucks that you've got some serious depression though, but it was your choice to take the med's, and he would of prescribed them with years of experience under his/her belt it... Just because you dont like somebodies help, dosent mean you fuck them in return.
