Have been trying the perlite wrapped in a cat litter pan...worked well for veg but starting to hate it.....nutrient deficiencies and have been following same protocol always do....have another tent with just dwc and it's beautiful no issues. My question is.....with all the root tips going through the bottom of the fabric pots....can I remove them from the trays they are in and just place on planter.....do I have to somehow brush off the exposed outside roots? Thinking they will eventually die so should scrape off? Or no.....very confused about this
Yeah you can switch over no problem. Don't even cut off the roots, they will die back on their own. You can also leave it there and just start top watering. The plants will eat the runoff, just don't leave a lot of water in there.
So water a little less if I leave them and top water? Like use less than I normally would? Also if I remove them would the roots dying there cause any harm to the plant. And most important question I have is should I be switching out the trays and cleaning them? Its all covered in black landscaping fabric so perlite is not exposed
Water them until you get 10-15% runoff, 20% is probably ok too if its a bigger plant. It will just drink it up. Roots dying won't kill the plant, it has plenty in the soil in the pot. You shouldn't need switch out the trays and clean them. If your having deficiencies, assuming your environment and light are ok, its probably either due to lock out in the soil or just not enough food, or not being fed the right pH. If your water quality is not good that could be an issue too. If you have pearly white roots down there, they are liking it.
Pictures and more information about environment, light, soil, nutrietns, etc.. would help us really get to the bottom of it.
The roots will air prune themselves. It won't hurt the plant. It's best to water until you get a bit of runoff. I always like my buckets elevated above the trays so they dont sit in the runoff. I empty the trays by throwing the runoff onto my lawn or just let it evaporate over the next few days. I clean the trays when I start a new grow or if they look kinda gunky.
I use fox farm nutes these are all in roots organics I believe 1 may have been ocean forest but it was a while back (nutes are gone in ocean forest by now if it was) I follow fox farms soil schedule I have cal mag big bloom grow big tiger bloom beastie cha ching open sesame.....sometimes I do half nutes but have been doing full lately....the do si do fortune cookie plant in front....I had issues with the same strain last grow. I have a ppfd meter all at about 900-1000
Probably 78 degrees in there and the room the tent is in is humidity controlled so humidity is close to on point
Thanks for taking the time to answer all this. Also only had 200 watts in there ...now added 100...I know its not ideal but I did newb mistake and started way too many plants even for 3 tents
Did you mean to post pics? I didn't see any. For sure man. 78 degrees and 55-65% humidity is good. I love roots organic, is my go too for sure. 300 watts might not be enough, just depends on ppfd. If i was vegging under that, id prob be like 2-3' away, for flower id be as close to light as possible without heat stress. Fox farm nutes are ok, its what i started with too. Id switch to botanicare pure blend soil line when you run out of those bottles, just better ratios. (tiger bloom 2-8-4, Pure blend bloom soil 1-4-5) Grow big is pretty nitrogen heavy too. I love big bloom, never stoped using it all the way through. Here is a feeding schedule i made for when i did use FF. This was made in 2010, so its been awhile since i used it, lol. Maybe it will help you. I will say I grew bigger plants then yours, so might need to back of by 1ml/gal or so of each thing.
Just saw pics! They looking pretty dang good my man, except that one. That one looks like it is at a different stage of flowering then the other ones. Is that different soil? Have you been feeding that one the same as the others? Looks like lock out from pH or EC. But they seem to really like what your doing, i wouldn't change too much and i'd leave them in those pots and just start top watering.
That is too much for the plant that is further behind than the others. 900 is fine for mid-late flower, but for veg/preflower it's too much. 400-500 would be better for the growth stage of the do si dos.
Thats the do si do it's a photo and the others are auto....so it's not supposed to be flowering....I did post about that do si do but never got an answer ....there seems to be pre flowers like I can literally see 4 little hairs coming out the middle of the tops....and they aren't little leaves like some guy was trying to tell me...I have a microscope.... there are the hairs like where you can tell it's female right at the nodes
Yeah messed up and did too many plants at once Ill have to move it to the corner.....meant to say there are orange looking tips to what seems to be preflower pistils......and it's not supposed to be flowering ....18/6 cycle all others in tent are autos
Also, based on your pictures, the flowering plant on the right is also showing signs of too much light.
