Can I keep a mother plant in a 3-gallon container?

  1. The title says it all.

I'm asking because I hear some people have had plants outgrow out a 3-gallon container, but I don't think they were talking about their mother plants.

Does the mother plant become root-bound at some point?

Will it survive indefinitely, and just not get bigger than the pot size will allow?

  2. Mothers generally live 3-9 months in Veg growth.
A 3 Gallon pot is for mainly used for the 4 month grow process
    others use 5 Gallon.

IMO, I'd use a 5 gallon or larger if you plan on having a Mother.

  3. Depending on your space restrictions, 3 gallons is the bare minimum I'd go........it will get root bound.........however, over time your mother plant will get root bound in larger containers also........I will usually cycle out my mother plants after 4-5 grows.

  4. Yep, depending on how long you keep her you'll need a bigger container or to trim the roots. I know a grower that has kept a mother for 5 years, so I don't quite understand the 3-9 month statement above...
