ok so im growing in a well (not great.) insulated attic and am planning on using 3 2t watt cfl bulbs. im scared cops with see my light with ir or flir and be suspicious.[/U]im trying to get 3, 27 watt cfls, the ones that produce around1700 lumens, where can i get different colored spectrum cfls? what about home depot? thanks for feedback, happy toking!
its good to be paranoid...but in your case. you will be fine. A 400w lamp produces less heat then your oven. When the cops are looking at your house through flir they are not looking for lights. they are looking for built up heat escaping rooms. So if you have a room that is very warm and is dumping heat out of everywhere the cops are going to investigate. If you have a few lights that are air cooled and hooked up to exhaust out of a dryer vent you wont have a problem. a lot of people think that flir can see lights and reflectors through wall. That is false. Flir can not see through objects. With one 400w light your attic would not register anything out of the ordinary if someone was using flir to look at your house.
I don't agree with that AT ALL. People don't normally burn heat sources in their attic, a 400w lamp would stick out like a beacon. The issue is whether FLIR flyovers are a threat in the first place.
ok well the oven was just an example. but ill tell you right now that my 63" plasma tv puts out more heat then my 400w HPS. and a lot of people live in the upstairs part of a house. again, cops are not looking for a heat source. they are looking for the amount of heat that would be escaping from a grow room. Under Flir a grow room would be lit up like a christmas tree. thats what they are looking for. not the 1 light opp that could or couldnt be any ordinary heat source. they are not going to invest the $$ or manpower to obtain more evidence and warrants on small potatoes that more often then not turn out to be nothing.
I think we are agreeing on the issue of how FLIR might be used, whether there is even a threat from FLIR at all. There has been debate on the legality of FLIR, whether it constitutes invasion of privacy and thus is illegal, and whether it is sufficient evidence for a warrant, and also if it is just worth LEO's effort to seek and bust small grows with expensive helicopters. But...IF FLIR is being used, and IF it is admissible, then a 400w lamp in an attic is going to stand out.
well also im not sure if this is a contributing factor, but my attic is pretty large, atleast 2 average bedroom sizes. if i shouldnt use hps bulbs, and if you are expirienced, what do you recommend? also is there a way i could find out where my ventilation flows?
have you seen a grow light behind a flir camera? i doubt it. I have, and i am going to tell you right now, that a 400w that is in a vented reflector and properly ducted will not be detectable by flir. thats all i have to say
say i wanted to use a cfl bulb, how many would i need? what watts, and would it give off more heat then a hps bulb?
Heat rises, so a lot of the heat in ur house is releases through the attic. I believe a 400w wouldn't make ur house stand out from a neighbors. but if u r still trippin they sell 250w CFL's that have the same base as a HID. They come in a red spetrum and blue spectrum. As far as how many you need depnds on how many plants you intend on growing. I would go by the HID recommended wattage/area although I would make sure u have more than enough light for the area with the CFL's. Hope I helped a little.
of course, any feedback helps. im trying to get 3, 27 watt cfls, the ones that produce around1700 lumens, where can i get different colored spectrum cfls? what about home depot?
This is true. I have to use IR cameras for work some times to check for heat build up in electrical devices. Some days its a life saver. THEY CANNOT SEE THREW WALLS.... EVER. The camers will only see that the walls or roof are warm. The device needs to be on the exterior of the structure for me to see a clear interpratation of what the device is. So even wires running threw your walls will not show up directly The exhaust port will show up on a IR camera if it is vented directly outside due to temp change . But this also can be mistaken as your dryer vent. PS: Breast implants show up as a large black spot on your body. Creeped me out first time this happend to me.. My first thought...... OMG you have no soul...then she turned to the side and at that point it was all clear to me.
Yes Home Depot or Lowes sells different temp bulbs in many different bulb types (e27 screw in, t12 t8 t5 long tubes, etc.). You can get Daylight (6500k - good for veg), Warm White (2700k - good for flowering). Just look for 100w equivalent CFL bulbs for screw in bulbs (23-27 watts). The lumens will vary slightly by manufacturer and "spectrum". They also have a cool white sometimes that is 5000k...but it seems that is not recommended either due to poor colors for growing or not common in stores so stick with 6500/2700k. I would not worry about the FLIR with CFL bulbs as long as you keep it below 300 actual watts total - not equivalent - (and that is probably conservative). They really dont put out that much heat. Plus heat rises so the minimal extra heat you will have in your attic could easily be explained by higher than average temp furnace set at or not running the AC much in the summer. Remember its the cops, not NASA. They are looking for something that makes no sense heat-wise, like a first floor room glowing as hot as the sun relative to rest of house...not a roof that is 1 or 2 degrees warmer than neighbors. I hope that helps.
would a 400w dual spec lamp been seen when in a bottom floor apartment it's in a closet thats not connected to ANY exterior wall and is vented into rest of apartment as have only 2 plants?? small grow lol
Q; is flir the same as thermal imaging? They have stuff to direct that heat back into the house in summer, that 400w is producing more heat than should be there, especially in one spot the shape of a growroom is rarely anything other than square or rectangular, and flyovers, if they are looking, will see that shape hot and the rest of the house cooler...not natural looking, although it could have an innocent explaination If it is the whole house grow, that would looked fucked, but anything could be that hot, but not as incongruent as a small hot room in a larger cool house, or a bright spot in summer If one was worried about this, or the way electricity consumption would look(if the grow was bigger) then it would behoove one to either purchase the stuff that blocks the thermal imaging signature(which looks to a clown like styrofoam pcs covered on one side in foil-NOT what they are, what they looked like 15 y ago. Or, if time or $ permits, have a welding shop or other "cover business". If one were to venture making mdma, would they just order the chemicals from one spot? or would they purchase many other photographic chemicals, or essential oils, etcetera, to bring a legitamate look to their purchases. Not that I would advocate that, but one must be prepared for extra expenditures to ensure security Or move to a medical state Incedently, they DO want the small fish. So many people roll over, its worth it to them to expend manpower on a small grow bust to get bigman or whatever. And I know people rat. A 'friends' ratting forced me to serve over 10 years, for psychedelics. I have seen people rat left and right. Even in the joint I saw Hardcore, Solid, stand up(NOT) dudes, CONVICTS(not), roll over for any reason. I dont know, if i would have had a wife and child, if I could have left them on the street to live up to a code of honor it seems Im the only one who lives up to anymore. Maybe I would have snitched, then not been able to look at myself in the mirror Sorry to stray from the subject. Be careful, vigilant, and silent. Peace
What does it matter anyway? Thermal imaging or the like can NOT be the basis for PC (probable cause) to search. It's an impermissible warrantless search. Unless there is some brand-spanking-new case law on the subject that says otherwise. Wait, I guess I forgot to ask, are you in the U.S.? If so, what I said is applicable. If not, I have no idea about the laws of wherever you live.
