can docs tell if i smoke

Discussion in 'Beginner Cannabis Consumption & Tips' started by H4ZER, Jan 30, 2010.

  1. a friend told me when he went to get a checkup they asked him did he smoke he said know and they were like we can tell by the way you breathe when we were checking your chest of something like dat.is dis true or only if i smoke rigth b4.

  2. unless they test for it then they won't have any evidence and even if they do that can't tell anyone. unless your freind is under 18 then they can tell his parents I believe.

  3. are you talking about weed or tobacco? they shouldnt be able to tell unless your a heavy smoker, even then it wont matter.

  4. What does being a heavy smoker have to do with it.

  5. patient-doctor confidentiality still applies to minors in most cases. With your physician honesty is always the best policy. Doctor's are way too busy and care too much about their patients to tell you're parents. If your doctor asks you if you smoke you shouldn't lie to them...besides I'd say the majority of them are pretty intelligent and could figure it out anyways. NOT THAT THEY CARE.

  6. what? good grammar?

there is no point lieing to your doctor, their job is to make their patient healthy. sounds like your underaged

  7. If you smoke a lot and your lungs are shit, that's what they're listening for when they use their stethoscopes and make you breathe deeply. As far as being able to tell apart a pot smokers' lungs from a cigarette smokers' lungs, I doubt it. When they asked, "Do you smoke?" they were probably asking about cigarettes since that's more common than pot smoking. Unless he smelled like pot or acted like a stoner or something, they probably didn't even ask about pot.

  8. What? good spelling?

  9. because i highly doubt a doctor would notice a light tokers decreased lung capacity

  10. What makes you think im underaged I just was wondering i dont have a check up or anything I was just wondering.

  11. Yeah, smoking anything on a regular basis puts tar in your lungs and doctors could theoretically detect it just by the way you breathe. But unless they DT you, they don't know what. Also, a doctor can't do anything if you smoke weed. Doctor patient confidentiality is the same as lawyer client confidentiality. He can't tell anyone. However, if you volunteer information to him that is not within the scope of the medical field as it relates to you he can turn in that info to the cops if he deems it necessary.

  12. Fuck doctors... You're a free human being! Stop worrying about what other people, especially a fuckin doctor, have to say about your use of cannabis. If he catches you tell him that it has more medical value than any of the drugs he gives to his mindless patients.

  13. Yes, they can tell you smoke. Here's a few indicators they look for:

    1. Smell
    2. Breathing ability
    3. O2 content in blood
    4. Cotinine/nicotine urine test.
    5. Cotinine in blood

Depending how much nicotine you consume, you may test positive for up to 2 weeks after your last consumption of tobacco.

  14. Only if you smoke before you go.
    Reak of weed.
Look like the steryotypicle stoner smoking peoples.
    Piss test
    If you tell them.

My doctor I dont think knows.
Iv seen my records. Your Aloud to read them Its your file.
When I leave the doctor he hands me my folder to bring the the desk.
    I read what was written.
    Never anything weed related.

  15. I have gone to the doctors blazed before and they said nothing. Not a damn word. I would not worry about it because as someone else said in this thread, do you think they really care? They are not the police.

    if you smoke tobacco.

But I thinkthe real question is: Do they care?
No, there's this little thing called doctor-patient confidentiality. They can't say shit, you can say you smoke cannabis and its privatly between you two. It's your choice whether you tell them or not

  17. It Doesn't matter if they know, legally they are not allowed to tell anyone, no cops, not your parents. And they can't tell and if they ask just be honest.

  18. i told my doc every drug i have ever done and how much of each ruffly....

depending on why your seeing the doc it mite be good for him or her to know!!!!

First of all, original poster, the reason that long-term heavy smoking is detectable by the way the lungs sound is for the same reason that people who smoke cigarettes are always hacking and wheezing -- it's not good for your lungs, and it changes the way your breathing functions ... it changes the way it SOUNDS. You get little pockets of fluid built up, and it creates a wheezing effect. Even if it's slight, they can detect it -- this is why doctors hold a stethoscope to your back and ask you to take steady breaths for a few seconds, in every standard checkup. It's an easy way to check for developing lung problems.

Smoker's cough is something that I think only tobacco smokers really get, but I've definitely gotten little wheezes immediately after toke-heavy days before.

Your friend was probably a cigarette smoker, or he's one of those poor lost souls that ruins his weed by sprinkling tobacoo in it. Even if he wasn't, and he only smokes weed .... so long as he's smoking day and night, his lungs are still going to carry some damage. At the very least, the hot smoke paralyzes the cilia inside the lungs ... this is purely a function of temperature. I won't even go into the chemical effects, which are mostly about carcinogens .... and THC has some funky chemical properties that tend to restrain the destructive potential of those substances.

    Anyway, I'm getting sidetracked.

Second .... it doesn't frickin' MATTER if the doctor can tell. Doctor/patient confidentiality is strong enough that your rights are protected on this matter. They're not going to call the police, the same way that the police never come for people that pee hot for marijuana when they take drug tests for a new job.

You get busted on the basis of POSSESSING marijuana and paraphernalia, or while driving under its influence. I have literally never heard of a case of someone getting in trouble ONLY on the grounds of it being detected in their system .... at least, nothing credible within the last two decades.

You shouldn't have any fear on this subject. Be honest with your doctor. It's important. If you're just worried about being exposed and judged .... most doctors under the age of 50 aren't really going to give a crap. And, medically speaking, if they're worth their salt, they're going to understand that your overall health would probably be worse off with a habit of five Red Bulls a day than a handful of joints throughout the week.

  20. only way they get you like that is if the piss test you fail is for probation or some other court ordered deal- then they can fuck with you -otherwise no
