Can a lighter light itself and catch fire?

Discussion in 'Marijuana Consumption Q&A' started by Vertigo01, Nov 29, 2017.

  1. I have my bic lighter in a plastic box, can it catch fire by itself? I know this is a stupid question but one of my friends said it could. Thanks

  2. Lighters can explode if they're in sun light or next to something hot like a heater, I've left my lighter out in the sun before & it blew up lol i don't think they can just set on fire just sitting there though

  3. Great Question for philosophy to answer. No.

Stoichiometry says spontaeneous combustion would need an external force to act upon the said lighter before it could ignite or the entropic casual forces would ultimately negate exothermic reactions.
