Was just wondering if a female plant can produce seeds if not pollinated? Also if pollination is necessary does that mean the seeds being produced will be a 50/50 hybrid of the two strains involved?
Bzzt! She can hermie and self-pollenate, but surely she can't produce seeds without any pollenation taking place?
Ding Ding Ding!!! Have to have pollination to get seeds. Either via a male or self-pollination (hermie). The resulting progeny may have the characteristics of the male or the female (or any combination)...Or be a throwback to any pheno in it's lineage, just depends on what is dominant for that particular plant.
females surely can produce seeds, but not viable seeds, as in they will never EVER germinate because only half the dna composition will be contained necessary for life propagation. You may find small white seeds but these are just the plants last defense. Just because a female human doesnt have sex every month doesnt mean she wont release a potentially fertile egg...
Nice way of putting it tenacity. Hmm fertile egg, I was thinking more in terms of a fetus. semen>egg>fetus. Fucking sour diesel.
The plant which I found seeds on is Jock Horror. During the grow there was only one male (Bubbelicious) which i thought i had removed early enough that it wouldn't pollinate. I guess it is now safe to assume that it has pollinated the Jock Horror. The seeds look very nice, about half are a solid looking brown and the other half are brown with dark speckles all over them. I've noticed that these seeds are much larger then the ones i recieved from Nirvana. Could this mean that they will produce a better plant? Also is it safe to say that some of these seeds will be a hybrid of JH/BB? Thanks for all the help
Heres a shot of the seeds, top were produced by my JH plant and the bottom were JH seeds supplied by Nirvana. What does the big difference in size mean? Is it possible to identify hybrid seeds by examining them closely?
I believe a female can create a viable see without pollen. I have no idea how it does it but it does. It is nature’s way of ensuring that the species will survive. And look, weed has been around for millions of years and not always is there a male around. I started a thread here a few years ago asking why otherwise sinsemilla weed always seem to have one seed in it every now and then. Nobody was able to answer the question. I live in a house that was built within the last decade. There has never been a mature male plant inside my house. My grow closet is pretty well sealed, my windows are never open and household A/C filters are changed every 3 months. There is no way that male pollen travels in from the outdoors. If I ever go outdoors I always change my cloths and shower before going into the grow room as not to bring in any pests or pollen. Yet, always one seed in otherwise sinsemilla weed. How can we explain this? We can’t. Nature does what's necessary to insure the species survives. EDIT Mycelium those seeds look great. I don't know why some are bigger than others; it really does not matter. You can not tell sex or strain by looking at a seed; only viabillity and that is not always fool proof. I have seen seeds germinate that I was sure would not and others that should have that did not.
That is no way possable within any type of reason. Are you positive you have actual seed and not just swollen empty seed pods? Your statement is like saying we can produce human babies without sperm, just useing eggs.
Life always finds a way. I have grown straight from clones in the past, as opposed to from seed with my current setup. Never had any other plants in my house. I am also very diligent when it comes to not contaminating my grow room. Straight from clones I have found one, two or even three seeds in my harvest when there was no pollination. It can happen, and most definently will happen if your girl turns out hermie.
Anyone with even a rudimentary knowledge of plant botany realizes seeds cannot happen without pollination. It's a no brainer. If your female plants end up with seeds without males, that means it threw a banana or two at the end of flowering to pollinate itself (hermie). Not rocket science, and the male flower is very easy to miss in a mature female plant. Anybody that still questions this should pick up a copy (or find one online) of Robert Clarke's Marijuana Botany 'cause this whole argument is getting silly.
i was always under the impression that you can still have a fem plant, but if it stressed too much throughout its lifetime, that it will somehow stress a produce a seed. Im not talking about a bud stuffed full of seeds like schwag, just like maybe 1 or 2 tops in a couple ozs or something
Satan and fencewalker, I have read many mj books, and have taken college biology on the way to getting my degree. There are some things that happen in science that have no logical explanations or answers. If you guys were real scientists you would realize this and learn to say the words "I don't know". But apparently you prefer to be dogmatic and say it can't happen and have an answer for everything. Well I am here to tell you that it can happen and does happen with no proof of any pollen or hermie flowers. Ever here about the theory of spontaneous human combustion? How about rogue waves? No real scientific explanations answering why. We just do not know why they happen.
so your saying a 100% female plant that has NOT been polinated, CAN have seeds? that would explain my sistuation. i have a blueberry plant grown with the scrog method, i only have 3 days of flushing left before i chop her down. the other day when i ran out of weed, i decided to cut off a little bud near the bottom of the screen and dry it in the microwave. i found what looks like premature seeds in the buds. i was so pissed, i almost grabbed the whole fucking waterfarm (with plant in it and grown into screen) and ripped it out to throw it out of my 4th floor window. but then i calmed down. i was wondering how the hell it could have happened because there was 2 plants at beginning of grow (both from seeds) one male one female, and i ripped the male out before the pistils even started showing on the female, so i was like how the fuck is there seeds, i check on my plants at least 1 time per day and i never saw any male flowers growing (indicating a hermy) so do you think this is what happened to my plant? also you were saying that the seeds are white. the "premature seeds" i found in the bud from my grow are very small (about 1/4 size of a good healthy mj seed) and are pure white. but like an actuall viable seed, they had a green (same color as plant) seed pod that surrounded it. so it confused me, really pisses me off though, all this waiting, thought i'd end up with some good buds, and then right at the end, fucking this shit happens. also check out my regular post, turned grow journal, in the general indoor growing section....i will be posting this shit there too with pics of what i'm talking about. Blue berry scrog
Damn vtec, i couldn't agree more with you... but even if your not a scientist, or should i say ESPECIALLY if your not a scientist, learn how to say i don't know. and also, people need to stop getting fact and opinion mixed up, just cuz something did or did not happen a certain way for one person, is not enough to make it a bonafied, FACT
