I was wondering if my plant is ready for general purpose fertiliser yet, and if not how do I know when it is ready?
Yes, and unless your soil has food in it, youre lucky the plant hasn't shown any deficiencies so far. I wouldn't use Miracle Grow, but if you do, remember it has No Magnesium. Magnesium is the #1 Deficiency for container growing plants, and weed, loves magnesium. I start feeding 20% solution, as soon as they have their first true leaves. Weed also like 2x as much Phosphorus vs Nitrogen. A scientific ratio for weed is 19.5-20-39 via Tissue Culture/Chem Gro. They've also been making plant specific fertilizer for over 40 years.
I couldn't really afford anything else.. Ahh that's probably because the compost I'm using is "Westland Garden Health Multi-Purpose Compost enriched with nutrients, "Feeds plants for 4-5 weeks" I have noticed that my pepper plants have started to yellow on the lower leaves so I guess they used up all the nutrients and now they need the miracle grow.. Roger that, I'll try to get something more targeted for growing cannabis with Magnesium in soon as I can afford to, with that being said should I avoid feeding my plant until it starts to show the first signs of a deficiency? As I will be transferring it to a bigger pot soon with the same compost..
I understand, You can use it my buddy uses some stuff from Walmart you just gotta watch to make sure the plants are getting everything they need,
No. Why would you wait until its Starving/Sick, to feed it?? Id give it 1/5 or so strength. Id probably start out at 1/2 tblsp per 5 gallons water, and 1 Teaspoon Epsom Salts for your magnesium. Lowering of older/lower leaves is usually a sign of Nitrogen deficiency. It takes the nitrogen out of the older growth first. Ive used Miracle Grow many times, but is not optimal, but needs magnesium.
Roger that, I check on it every day it's my baby, I really need it to yield at least an oz to pay for itself and other bits I need to progress so I'm putting a lot of work into it. True, I wouldn't leave a baby to starve until I feed it haha just not totally clued up on plants, I thought I was a wiz kid for growing the peppers and shit I did, turns out it was the compost mostly lmao! I'll get my hands on some Epsom Salts when I can then, am I alright to pre-mix the food/water and store it in a bottle, does stale bottled water not have a detrimental effect?
I have 2 photography lamps with 5 CFL's on each I'm currently only using the center light on one lamp instead of the dual setup as someone said all 10 was over-kill at this stage, when the plant is bigger I plan on positioning them either side of the plant at a 45 deg angle with all 10 CFLs running during flowering, what do you reckon? The bulb info: 38w - 5500k - 240v/50hz
Unless its feminized, you may have a male, and your time will be lost. I usually start more than I know I can use, and then keep the best 1s, and kill, or give away the lesser 1s. If all are uniform. Somebody still has to go. If you want 1 female. Id start 5-6 seeds. Half will probably be male ect.
I run 7 cfls in my veg box but I flower under a 600 watt hps in a whole other area that way I can always have bud
Id use all of em. But thats me. I use 1000w to seedlings/veg. 24 inches from the top. Always have. Since 78. I also veg 24 hours. Maybe every few days turn the light of to let the ignitor cool, not for the plant though. I like at least 50w+ Sq/ft. Sun is 12,000w Sq/ft. I use a 1000w Hortilux in 4 x 4. 62-63w Sq/ft. After being sexed, I use 5 gallons to veg, then up pot to 1-2 20 gallon containers per 1000w Hortilux. 2-3 for a 1000w Gavita. Id use 10 gallons for 400w.
Yeah that's another thing I'm waiting to sex the plant so the faster I can get it to an identifiable stage the better really haha it was just one of 2 seeds I found on my mates table from his bud (shit hermaphrodite bud clearly?) fingers crossed it's a girl.. The next grow I do I will definitely be using a feminized seed. For now all I have is my CFLs I'll be happy just to pull 1 oz off for starters I'm on a really tight budget, mostly the reason I've started trying to grow, I wanted to get into a led panel setup once I have some startup cash and move it into a proper light-proof tent. Right now I'm running 15 hours on, and 9 off mostly because I haven't light sealed my wardrobe or have anything light proof to cover the front door crack with, I don't want any nosey neighbors to see the bright lights running all the time, the lights turn on automatically at 6:20am and off at 9:20pm to ensure nobody see's the light, and to ensure the plant doesn't turn into a hermaphrodite due to the light leak in the wardrobe..
Looks lovely haha, yeah not knocking the quality of the seed but obviously if my boys weed had seeds in it, then it's lower-end bud surely? haha all the feminized seeds I've looked into are purple tinted buds/leaves, looks so sexy.
While others may disagree. Id steer clear of feminized seeds. All of them Ive tried ( Over 20 strains ) were never as good as the regulars. If you want something really good, really cheap, a medium producer, and 6-7 weeks flowering look at James Bean Company. They carry Vashon Early Bird, which was also known as M26 back in the 80s, from the Super Sativa Seed Club. They were 1 of the 1st to start offering seeds for sale. Look up Super Sativa Seed Club arly Bird M26. I just bought 2 packs. $40 a pack. Outside its done last week of Aug- 2nd week Sept. Medium yield, and very high terpene profile. If you want real funk, look into. The Nature Farm Genetics. Dumpster Skunk. REEKS, and is killer weed, and great yield. $80 a pack. + you get a free pack of another strain. I think Mr Nice is free right now. OLD SENSI G13 x Hashplant x REAL SKUNK18.
Thanks for the information bro, I don't actually smoke anymore due to smoking 6g - 8g a day and developing mental problems so I'm primarily growing for high-yield in my conditions.. I've also switched the setup, taken the center bulb out and I will have all 4 blasting for 17 hours a day now..
Its not rocket science to grow good weed, and get good yield. But there are several rules that cant be broken, and if you break them, it takes a certain % off of the ultimate outcome. #1 is you have to have the best genetics possible. You are ultimately limited by genetics. You cant even take a nice hemp plant with 0 THC, and even get 5% out of it. #2 You must have strong light. #3. You must have good ventilation. #5 You must learn to water when the plants aren't to dry, but don't keep them wet. I can tell by the weight of the pot, but I also use a cheap Lowes Moisture Meter, and never let the reading get below Low Moist. If you let your plant get really dry, and the leaves droop, and then you feed, and water, you stand a high chance of fertilizer burn. When plants get really dry, it concentrates the salts, and then when fed again, concentrates them even more. I also like to see my plants moving some. I use fans to circulate the air, and I like several of them, but don't put directly on the plant and beat them to death. But I do want it moving to make it stronger. Stronger stems, = bigger buds. You need all the air you can get. I myself would start off with a 600w HID that can run both Halide, and HPS. Id get a nice 4oook or so for veg, and a Hortilux HPS for flowering. For the $$ its hard to beat HID, though it does get hot. But if you cant get at least an lb from a 600w, with a good strain, somethings wrong.
