Calling all Lecithin users!

Discussion in 'Weed Edibles' started by clayi21, Feb 26, 2019.

  1. For those who missed my thread last week, I'm Clay, a regular maker/consumer of edibles/tinctures for the last 12 years. I'm working on a project at University of Georgia, and I'm trying to collect data on home infusion makers with a focus on those trying to improve the solubility/bioavailability of their infusions. Totally anonymous, I won't use your name or profile in my project. I appreciate any help answering the following questions; feel free to post here or privately message me your answers. Thanks!

    1. How long have you been consuming cannabis and how often do you consume it?

    2. How often is it orally consumed cannabis (edibles, tinctures etc)?

    3. How often do you make your own cannabis infusions?

    4. How much money do you spend on cannabis per month?

    5. Do you use lecithin in your infusions? If so, do you only use it in fat based infusions or other types as well ex. Alcohol tinctures, glycerin etc..?

    6. Where did you learn about using lecithin in cannabis infusions?

    7. How would you compare the strength level of your infusions with lecithin to those without lecithin? A: the same, no differences are felt; B: 10-25% increase in effects; C: 50% or more increase of effects.

  2. I might already have answered some (all ?) of these, but just in case
    1. Every night for sleep for the past 5 years
    2. Always
    3. Always
    4. Expenses are about $50 per month
    5. Yes, but only in oil tinctures and whole herb baked goods (the best way to make edibles). I don't make anything else.
    6. From Magical Butter Machine recipes
    7. B, but it's hard to quantify

  3. Thanks for the feedback Wild Bill! I've got a few new questions in there, so I appreciate your response. I totally understand its pretty difficult to quantify- just trying to get an idea of users perceptions. Thanks!

C: More like flat out doubles the perceived effects and doubles the length of the effects as well IME.
I won't make a batch of oil without it.

  5. I stubbornly resisted using lecithin until deciding to try BrassNwood's method.
Best method I've tried, out of dozens.

Thanks for sharing BNW! Wow, double the effects is pretty amazing result! Anyone else have results this good? or not as good?

  7. how about using an ultra sonic cleaner to capsulize the lecithin over the cannabinoids ? we use lecithin and vitamin C to make encapsulated vit C in our ultra sonic... for mainstream, I think prime my body uses that method too
    prime my body at DuckDuckGo

  8. 1. Daily, 24/7
    2. Daily, 3-5 times / day depending on pain. RSO for higher doses, infused coconut oil capsules for lower doses
    3. I try to make as much as possible. Now with growing my own I do not have to rely on small batches as I have access to more material. Usually every 3 months now for meds. Usually spend an evening a month making some baked goods, brownies, scones, banna bread, etc...
    4. 100$ / year for capsules, lethicin, coconut oil
    5. yes, in coconut infused capsules only. Sunflower Lethicin
    6. interwebs
    7. B

    cheers!

  9. First time anyone has recommended the use of an ultrasonic cleaner to me, but it sounds like a great idea! I see they make some that have a controllable heating element, I could definitely see this working well. I will have to try it out and report back. Thanks for the interesting suggestion!

  10. Thanks for sharing, it sounds like you have an efficient system! Is that sunflower lecithin granules or powder? Has anyone out there ever found much difference between the two?

  11. The ultrasonic cleaners are fast becoming important tools for the CBD market. Combined with lecithin and low heat they provide a better liposomal encapsulation than mere lecithin and the heat/freeze cycles alone. The ultrasound breaks everything down into micromolecules which vastly improves bioavailability.

Lecithin personally does nothing for me when combined with cannabis. However, I do use lecithin as a cardiovascular supplement daily. :)

  12. Yeah, it seems like a brilliant idea. I have used higher end ultrasound machines to manipulate aromas compounds before, but never even realized there was an affordable version of the technology for home consumers. Definitely will try this out!
Thanks for the feedback PSam! Its interesting to see and hear everyone's different perspectives on lecithin. Definitely great on its own as a dietary supplement!

  13. I try to make it as efficient as possible. time is money.

I first tried to use the granules but found they didn't always melt and mix easily.

I now use the liquid. thick as tar but blends in well at 100 degrees c.

as for the difference between the 2. no noticeable difference to me in effectiveness

  14. I've used the powder ( sunflower lecithin only) and the liquid . powder is better to work with and not as gross LOL, but both are effective.. the pellets I assume turn into powder so same thing basically

Edit- I use lecithin alone and feel a Brain Gain instantly it seems, very effective lipid no doubt
