Just started week five of flower and I'm wondering if I should be good to lower my CaliMagic dose? I'm in coco and have been giving a 450ec base (3ml per gallon in RO) of CaliMagic since the start of veg. It'd be nice to clear some EC budget for the rest of my nutrients and was thinking I'd just try going to 2-2.5ml per gallon. My mix has worked so good thus far, I'm a little wary to change it. Thanks! Sent from my SM-G975U using Tapatalk
Lol you give more calmag than I give everything together mate. That’s literally the highest dose I’ve ever heard of. My water is almost pure at 48ppm and I don’t need any other than the occasional dose from mid stretch to treat iron def.
Thanks. Just following the instructions I have Cocoforcannabis may not be perfect, but they've mostly steered me in the right direction. They suggest the full 5ml and to dial back if they look good, but they don't say how much. I'll dial it back, lol. Sent from my SM-G975U using Tapatalk
I've been giving mine .5ml / litre (2ml/gal) the whole grow so far and I'm thinking I might be able to go a little lower next time. I've got close to a 50/50 mix in my pot so i'm thinking that by using a little less coco and more perlite I can skate by with a little less calmag.
That is about what I decided on. I'm going down to 1.5ml per gal the rest of the way, considering I double buffered all my coco and have apparently been overdoing it for a while. I'm assuming my coco is pretty saturated and stable at this point. Sent from my SM-G975U using Tapatalk
Nout to do with that mate. Both are “inert “ media. Ie, of no nutritional value. You see things about oh coco is lacking calmag or high in phosphorous etc but that’s only if you compost it into a soil or whatever. Coco has absolutely zero nutritional value of any sort when used properly. No excess this or lacking that, it’s just a zero. Does nothing other than hold your roots mate. Basically just an empty sponge. It should be treated the same way as dwc, NFT, wilmas, aeroponics or any other hydro media when it comes to nutes. Doesn’t matter if it’s 50/50 or straight perilite. If you use just coco with no perilite there’s problems will arise from not being able to water it enough but those are cause and effect of improper use and not actually the coco itself that’s doing it. I know for a fact someone will try and throw some sort of chart or other at me for saying that but go clean some coco. run some water through it and check the ph and ppm value of the water before and after. You’ll see it’s exactly the same. Not a single digit of a difference. If there is, you never cleaned the coco properly so go do it again I’ve done loads of different mixes of coco-peri. from 50% - straight peri in dtw, recirc and hempy style. 10L, 15L, 20L Photos and autos. I also grow with 480w per meter blurples which apparently make plants needs loads of calmag too. Yet here I am with 48ppm water and I only use it as you do, at 0.5ml/L. But I literally only need it 4 or 5 times at best in pots and never untill just before they hit the stretch.
It is a well known fact that coco consumes CalMag as it breaks down and must be supplemented...so it's a zero EXCEPT it's a negative with CalMag. If you're suggesting this isn't true, then you're contradicting literally every source I've ever seen. Sent from my SM-G975U using Tapatalk
No.... myself and many, many, many others are contradicting everything you’ve ever read because we’ve actually grown with the stuff mate. We’ve Experimented... And eventually realised that we don’t actually need it. I’m not being a dick though mate. Not being aggro, just hard to keep the tone with text lol. Hunt about the site and you’ll find plenty guys who’ve realised it’s not necessary If using r/o water you definately need some but again, my tap water is 48ppm and I don’t need it. when I do it’s because I get mad iron def and I buy calmag + (ca/mg/fe/N) to deal with that. Not actually because I need cal or mag. I’ll prove I know more than every nute supplier on earth aswell if you’d like? Pretty much every reservoir grower on the forum will back me up with that one too That’ll do for now though lol.
Yeah, you do always kinda sound like a dick. That's part of the problem. Sorry. Sent from my SM-G975U using Tapatalk
For instance, this sentence right here...totally unnecessary and makes you sound like an arrogant douche. "I’ll prove I know more than every nute supplier on earth aswell if you’d like?" Sent from my SM-G975U using Tapatalk
No offence taken mate. I’m Scottish and the way I speak doesn’t really translate well into paper so I do come across as a twat. It’s just the way I am though. I don’t mean it honestly, we’re just particularly forward and sarcastic people where Im from. Should here how we speak to each other. Calling someone a fuckin cunt is generally a term of endearment. When I meet my gaffer in the morning it’s along the lines of ... “Mornin ya fat, bald prick” “Fuck of cunt” And that’s us genuinely being nice and friendly towards each other. Nothing but smiles . It’s absolutely normal for us man so I do struggle to not be a dick online. Occupational hazard of sorts lol.
Alright man, haha. Thanks for taking the criticism well. I keep thinking "what is this guy's problem?!". I'll let it roll off from now on. Sent from my SM-G975U using Tapatalk
Yeah mate the second quotes easy though. just ask anyone that grows in a reservoir what happens if you feed as directed by the nute company. Got no chance of a quality grow. we feed by measuring the strength of the feed and plants can only absorb a small fraction of what pretty much every nutrient supplier on the planet tells you they need. Pretty much impossible to prove in a pot but clear as day in a reservoir. We can see if the ppm level changes by as little as 0.001 depending on how good our meters are. the majority of coco growers don’t go over 500-800ppm total nutes at any point and those of us in reservoirs have a bit more accuracy so tend to feed even less. there’s lots of bro science surrounding this stuff that’s been emblazoned as fact over the years mate.. like flushing, topping autos hurts yields, that giving roots too much water is actually possible, that nickleback aren’t actually a really shit band, the list goes on lol. Point is though mate. Just because something looks legit it is always just one mans opinion. the exact same can obviously be said for this but if you have a look about you’ll see there’s lots of people who don’t use much, if any calmag in coco. most of the things you read involve someone making money from you. I stand to gain absolutely nothing from this conversation but when the more experienced coco growers see it they’ll jump down my throat with examples of personal experience if I’m wrong.... But that won’t happen. Hasn’t so far anyway but plenty guys pop up to say they don’t use it iether. Pretty hard to prove you need something when you’ve never tried growing without it
And thank you for understanding my communication issue lol. I tried the U.K. forums so I had more locals but then it’s all arseholes like me giving it loudy and it’s just fucking carnage cos nobody knows if the other one is being nice or actually threatening to come find you. It’s a fragile environment lol

That last post was perfect...I can tell you toned it down, haha. And I will certainly take everything you said into consideration. I don't feed at strengths suggested. I've been between 1200-1250ec for weeks now and just basing any movements on my runoff ec. I do use the ratios suggested in the GH feed chart though. I feel like my EC could maybe go up a bit though, with less CalMag, cause I think the little bit of burn I've seen is maybe a magnesium od. With less CalMag in the mix, I can get them more of what they want right now. Sent from my SM-G975U using Tapatalk
Oh aye, that was my point haha. Yeah. lower the calmag mate. Could’ve just said that but hey ho The ratios set by the supplier will always be close to spot on it’s just the strength that’s overshot. The calmag thing though is just something that I see all the time and it is useful stuff. It helps balance ph levels and stuff but honestly man, you generally shouldn’t need a lot of it. sometimes people use it to fix things like ph issues and it technically works but eventually it generally causes problems because it’s a bit like fixing a window with tape. you get awesome benefits for a while then it all goes wrong at the wrong time. You use more tape to fix it and it still doesn’t work. so you use more tape again and eventually the carpets fucked aswell
Do you like the movie "Braveheart" ? Just kidding, good info, although I grow in soil right now. Might try DWC or Coco in the future though, quicker growth is very appealing to me.
