I currently reside in the shit hole called central NY ive lived here my whole damn life and i think its time for a change, i need to get out and see new places so a group of friends and I are thinking of moving out to cali to see whats good out on the west coast. we've mostly been looking at areas around the coast south of the SF bay area San Luis Obispo Monterey bay etc so i was wondering if anybody has any advice on a good place for a group of 20 year olds to be able to get jobs(min wage...w/e) and rent a house I myself would like to live close enough to be able to commute to college (not sure which yet)
the bay area is very expensive compared to other parts of california. i would suggest not moving to SF off the bat but to move somewhere in Nor-cal and then tour California with your buddies to see where you like best. Northern california is very different than southern california. San diego area is also very expensive. Like i suggested I would look somewhere northern cali. 916
if your gonna reside in cali try the north cali. it may be more expensive but your not gonna regret it. mad dank at super cheap prices. got cities like berkeley and sf that you will not be bored for a second in and shit like that
I'm goin to Humboldt man! We'll have to toke sometime. Arcata is actually really expensive but the surrounding communities like eureka and blue lake are pretty affordable.
yea ive heard that nor cal and so cal tend to but heads and by south of the bay area i mean pretty far south of SF does anyone know what prices for tuition might run for a state school?
I'm from the Bay Area, and I'll be honest with you it's SUPER expensive to live here, but it's the greatest place on EARTH If you come here, though, be careful. There's a lot of dangerous/ghetto places. Try Berkeley. I don't live there, but I want to. You can get the best bud there
but is that a bad thing? where im from it is because most of the college kids that go to syracuse are snooty rich fuckers from long island or jersey and they all drive expensive ass cars and dress the same...it disgusts me
well theres douchebags everywhere but the east coast has it the worst for douchebaggery. most college kids in cali are really chill people
Los Angeles is also outrageously expensive and it's really not a great place to live. Good place to visit. If you want to rent a house you can rent a house fairly cheap in the San Fernando Valley or the San Gabriel Valley.
i have lived in cali my whole life. first in san diego (760), then pebble beach (monterey bay, 831). and let me just say, you'll get bored in monterey. haha. its beautiful as hell but theres not much to do and theres just not that many people around there. so cal isnt chill like up north but its fucking sick. tons of girls. tons of stuff to do. weed EVERYWHERE. as fas as out of state tuition for state schools i actually think its around 14k per year for tuition and a food/housing plan is like another 8k on top of that. im guessing you wanna live off campus though so thats its own thing. i go to san diego state, i have lots of friends who go to all the state schools out here and i think you would honestly like long beach, san diego state, san fran state, and probably chico over monterey. and fuck whoever said move to the valley (outside of LA) hahah.
I know that someone has counseled you against it already, but... I would move straight to the bay area for 4 reasons: 1) The minimum wage in SF is $9.79/hr 2) There is an extensive, inexpensive public transit system throughout the entire region 3) There are multiple community colleges accessible via the public transit system 4) The unemployment rate in SF is currently *lower* than the national average (not by much, but still, jobs can be had). It's not uncommon for people who are trying to save money to live in Oakland or somewhere in San Mateo County and then work in SF for the higher wages. If there's a group of you and you go in on an apartment together in a nicer part of Oakland (yes, there are *some* nice parts) you could save quite a bit of money even at the SF minimum wage. Now, obviously I'm biased, I love SF and never want to live anywhere else, but even I will concede that it's a little expensive to move directly into the city without much money saved up and no immediate prospects beyond a minimum wage job. Living in "Northern California" generally might make it hard for you to commute to a community college, and you won't benefit from SF's high wages.
He asked where to rent a house for cheap the valley's the only place around la where you can rent a house under 2 grand a month dipshit. Unless you wanna live in the fucking hood the valley's ur best bet.
dude chill. i'm just saying its kind of a dick move to advise someone to spend thousands on uprooting and moving to THE VALLEY.
Being from Jersey I can say people are less fake on the east coast. Sure, Cali people can seem nice, but most people are putting on a front. Cali is laid back and people don't like confrontation no matter how necessary. I live in San Jose now - sure its pricey but I wouldn't call it "expensive" considering what jobs pay. It would be ridiculously easy to get a job paying $10/hr and splitting rent on a house with someone out here. As for weed... whether you're in San Jose, Berkeley, or Sacramento, you're going to find top-notch weed. I don't doubt that what I get down here is any worse than you'll find in a club in Berkeley.
There's some chill ass places in the valley ie. Burbank,Pasadena,Woodland Hills,Sunland all less than 20 min from downtown and less than 40 min from the beach.
