do i need to buy Calibration & Cleaning Solutions - Meters / Testing Instruments - Controllers, Timers, Meters - All Growing Supplies calibration soulution and cleaner. and what should i get. does the brand matter? also do i store my hanna ph checker in a soulution HELP
Yes you need a calibration solution but a little bit lasts forever and is cheap. I rinse my meters in water so forget the cleaning solutions. Do NOT store your meters in liquids. I wrecked a good PH meter when I forgot the tip was sitting in water
I would think that how you store your PH meter would depend entirely on the manufactures directions. My meter, EcoTestr2, requires storage in a 4.0 calibration solution or water. Different meters = different storage solutions. OP, yes you do need calibration solutions. Go to your manufactures website & check out their instructions for your model on how to calibrate. Cheers
What kind of meter were you using that you wrecked by storing in liquid? Some PH meters requite them to be stored in some kind of liquid that the manufacterer reccomends.
so my stupid hanna ph checker wont stabilize when i try calibrating it exactly as the directions say just wont stay on a number ......... WTF is it broken XD!?!?!?!
Test the batterys, did you need to pre-soak the probe for 24 hours first? I dont own a Hanna I have a Bluelab so I`m just throwing out some basic questions to get an idea.
things brand new batterys should work. instuctions said to soak for a few hours in 7.01 . then start the calibration process by putting it in 7.01 and ajusting it to that number then into 4.01 and ajust it to that number.... but i cant ajust it to a number beacause the thing wont stay on a number........ So anyways i just ordered a new ph. meter fuck HANNA meters lol
I am having issues cal. my bluelab. But it has a 1 year warranty and they are sending me a new one. Glad I have a cheap backup till this new one comes.
What model of Bluelab you have? I have the combo meter and thought mine was having problems so they had me do a test on it to see what error code came up when you put it in the 4.0 cal solution and press the 7.0 cal button. It turned out that my brother would take the PH probe out of the glass of water I sometimes would leave it sitting in when he was doing dishes and let the probe dry out to many times. Yours only has a 1 year warranty?
Ah ok. I got to where I learned that our tap water after sititng out for 24 hours or so has a consistant PH of 7.2 and after adding nutes its 6.5-6.6. If I`m doing a nute feeding I dont even need to PH it and if doing a just a watering I learned that it just takes 1 militer of General Hydroponics PH down to get it down to around 6.5. Once you learn how to work with what your using you can get a system down that makes it quick and easy. Also once you got the PH of your soil dialed in you dont need to constantly check the PH run off everytime.
Yeah I need to take a baseline test of mine too so if this happens again I have a better idea of what I am working with. Just have to calibrate my cheap backup tomorrow and I should be good to go.
I also have a bluelab trunction(sp) which I love. No cal needed, ever.(They say) EDIT - Sorry. Kinda hi-jacked this thread. my bad
Yeah those are nice. I got the combo meter for when we switch over to bubble buckets in the winter, just need to get a dehumdifier. As for hijacking this thread not really you had a similiar problem with your meter.
the hanna ph checker. since the hanna is a peice of trash and i dont have time to mess around with that bs i ordered a new ph meter XD... Milwaukee Waterproof pH Tester, think that will be good? how bad do u think it is for seedlings that are only getting water at the moment to have water thats not a good ph (tap water)???? they look fine.... think they will be even better when i can finally give them good ph water
Milwaukee has decent testers. Their one of the top 3 reccomended in my opinion. I got a Milwaukee one I dont use anymore. we upgraded to a meter that we can also use for a hydro set up where we need to know PPM or EC readings for when we get our bubble buckets up and running for our indoor winter grow. One thing I noticed when compairing the Milwauke to our Bluelab Combo is that the Bluelab is much faster at giving you an accurate reading.
My Hanna Champ works perfect. It came calibrated out of the box. OP, fluctuating pH # while in calibration solution usually means damaged probe. Did you let the probe dry out at any time before calibrating?
